We had the good fortune of connecting with David Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
At a young age, I found a love for music. I would either be singing a Jonas Brothers song or playing air guitar. Music was everything to me, still is. When I was 4 years old, my mom and I went to my local ‘Concert in the Park’ series. On stage was a bunch of young teens playing music. Immediately, I knew that was something I wanted to do. We found out that all those kids were going to a music school called, “Rockstars of Tomorrow.” I begged my mom to let me take music lessons and she said yes! At first, the music school said that they didn’t teach anyone under 12 but they would make an exception. That’s when the grind started. I practiced my guitar everyday until my fingers were red. Over the years, I started to get better and better. I started to sing and play multiple instruments such as piano, bass, and drums. Some of my longtime inspirations are, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. I knew that I wanted to leave an impact on the world like they did. I have this drive to keep pursuing this career because I know something special is coming.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a 16 year old singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California. Throughout the years, I have become a multi-instrumentalist, on a mission to perfect the piano, guitar, bass, drums, and ukulele. I’ve performed live shows at famous venues such as the Whisky a GoGo in Hollywood, House of Blues Anaheim, The Viper Room, and many, many more. Recently my band, Youthanize, performed at the National Association of Music Merchants Show (NAMM) which was super exciting. Since 2019, I’ve been a solo artist writing and producing my original music. One of my latest songs, “HERE FOR YOU” has surpassed 45K streams on Spotify. This song was completely written, produced, mixed, and mastered by me. I’ve won numerous songwriting awards and was featured in the PBS show “Celebration of Music” as recipient of the Producers Choice Award. A challenge that I have faced is being an independent artist. Without a record label, I had to create my own team and promote my music on my own. Over the years, I’ve learned how to edit music videos which saves a lot of time and money. I want the world to know that you can make a difference with hard work and that dreams really do come true. I am almost finished with a new song called, “Masquerade Party” which will be releasing soon. Stay Tuned!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Disneyland! I love going to Disneyland with my friends and family. It really is the Happiest Place on Earth. I also love hanging out at the sunset strip. There is a lot of craziness happening over there and its fun to watch. I’ve been spending a lot of my time recently at the beach. It’s been a really good peaceful spot to let go of all my problems and relax. My favorite place to eat has to be Panda Express. The orange chicken is so good and when you add a strawberry Fanta, it’s like heaven.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shout out Indistry Media. Indistry Media is a digital entertainment TV and live stream network that helps Independent Artists like myself be heard. I met the founders back in 2016 and ever since then, we have had a very strong business relationship. Their platform features music videos, documentaries, shows, podcasts, movies, and more. They also collaborate with a bunch of different events and brands. I’m so grateful to have my own page on their platform. On July 4th, I will be performing as an Indistry artist at the “Unity Day LA” event in Pomona, CA which I’m super excited about!
