Meet David Storm” Manning | Mobile DJ/Entertainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with David “Storm” Manning and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It all started in high school. I always enjoyed music, radio, and broadcast in general. In high school and college, I honestly wanted to be a film/tv actor first, radio DJ second. Being a mobile entertainer/party DJ wasn’t even a thing I knew you could do. I met one of my business partners Junior Year of high school and we shared a love for music. He told me that he had a small, but growing, dj business and invited me to tag along with him to an upcoming high school dance he was DJing. I went, loved it, and continued to go with him for years until I turned it into a side hustle through college and my early adult years. In January of 2000, after working for other companies, I decided to go out on my own, and that was the beginning of Omega Sound & Entertainment.
What should our readers know about your business?
Our business is centered in the New Orleans Metropolitan Area, a prime city for destination weddings. People associate New Orleans with “the Big Easy” mentality, Bourbon St., and that Mardi Gras lifestyle. They come to New Orleans expecting a party unlike any other. What sets us apart from our competition is our willingness and drive to go above and beyond to blend our culture with theirs and to give them an experience like they’ve never had before, and maybe never will again. Our baseline is perfection. Our goal is exceeded expectations. We want the world to know that Omega Sound & Entertainment in New Orleans, Louisiana IS where the search for premier entertainment ends.
We’ve been a part of over 1,500 weddings and events in the last 22 years. We’ve worked through tremendous periods of technological advancement, from tapes and records, to CD’s, to MP3’s…from lots of big heavy gear with tons of wires to light, loud, blue tooth wireless speakers. We’ve been a part of generational shifts, changes in etiquette and expectations, and varying music and party trends. Our success has been our ability to adapt and pivot with the times while always providing entertainment that is second to none.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The French Quarter, hands down. There’s so much history, music, food….culture. We’d definitely spend some time in the city of New Orleans, and I promise, a week wouldn’t be long enough to take it all in!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to shoutout my business partners and fellow DJs. First and foremost, I’d like to shoutout Kevin Martino, the friend who introduced me to DJing in High School, He’s been a life-long best friend since 1994, without whom, none of my accomplishments would have ever happened. I’d like to shout out all of the DJ’s of Omega Sound & Entertainment who are more than just co-workers or “DJs for my company”. They’re also some of my best friends and some of the most talented people I know. They challenge my creativity and always push me to be my very best. I’d like to shout out all the people who doubted me….said it’d be too hard, or I didn’t have what it took…I’d never be good enough. I’m tremendously stubborn, and that chip you put on my shoulder is the same one I bet on myself with, time after time. Tell me I can’t, then watch me prove you wrong. And finally, but most importantly, I’d like to shout out my wife and children. It’s their support that means the most. This isn’t an easy profession to have a successful family life in. You give up a lot of weekends and holidays to be successful. They understand and support me and always have and it means the world to me. I only hope they know that I’m doing this as much for them as they provide support for me.
