We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Gregg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dawn, what do you want your legacy to be?
As a creative, I believe to my core that necessity truly is the mother of all invention and that more times than not, we already have access to what we need to work out our artistry. Most creatives I know are out of the box thinkers and tap into this truth readily and organically. My faith provides the fertile ground for my creative lifestyle to flourish. I believe my artistic bent is a gift given with purpose and intentionality. I would be pleased if folks caught a glimpse of the Creator in my efforts to honor … through my lifestyle… the way in which I have been crafted.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At the core, I am a storyteller. Traditionally, I have crafted stories mostly as a writer and also, with a camera. I see myself as documentarian. I’m very interested in capturing moments authentically and the process comes so naturally to me whether it be via … let’s say….writing truthful dialogue or via the instinctual rise of my camera to capture a shot.

During the global trauma, I moved into a creative space where I began processing life and expressing myself via abstract painting. I found a sense of freedom by working on large scale pieces outdoors. Locked down, my Wanderlust series grew out of that restrictive season. Pieces took anywhere from a week to a month to arrive at their final destinations. By the end, I knew where each piece had transported me back to…. a beloved memory….Marrakech, Sanibel Island, NYC, Civitavecchia, Jerome, Zion, BKLYN, Quartzite, D.C. etc.

“…not all those who wander are lost.” -J. R. R. Tolkien

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my friends visit Los Angeles, we thrift. I am all about a curated home, so the Rose Bowl Flea Market, which I have been visiting for 30 + years, is a favorite spot. We’d also absolutely visit some Estate Sales. I’d want them to know about the croissants at Lou, The French On The Block in Burbank, the Yellow Curry and Crispy Rice Spicy Tofu at HOPE (Healthy Organic Positive Eating) in Studio City, and the CVT soft serve ice-cream truck. I love cooking, so we’d mostly eat in and play games afterwards.

I enjoy hikes in Fryman & Franklin Canyons. Our Beach Days are spent in Malibu at First Point or Point Dume.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Let’s give a shoutout to Michelangelo.

“I saw an angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.”

Also to, Francis Schaeffer.

No work of art is more important than the Christian’s life, and every Christian is called to be an artist in this sense… the Christian’s life is to be a thing of truth and also a thing of beauty in the midst of a lost and despairing world.”
