We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Mayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dawn, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is by Mahatma Gandhi which states, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Throughout my life, I have had amazing opportunities to work in various industries and what I find to be true is that there is plenty to complain about. My approach however was to decide to be solution oriented and create innovative ways to address the issues. Although I could not fix everything, I found satisfaction in knowing that I have moved the needle towards a better solution that will improve an environment.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been an artist all my life. I come from a family of artists as well. My art has given me inspiration, cheered me up, and in my later years healed me in many ways. I create my soul language through acrylic paint on canvas. I translate messages of spirituality that promote self awareness, self care, healing and empowerment. My pathway was not straight but filled with twists and turns, forks, and even U-turns but there was always something to remind me of my love of art throughout my life. Many times our environment is constantly changing but to be able to identify the staple that calms and soothes me, brings vibrancy to my spirit, and ignites my creative passion has been well worth the journey. At this point in my career I am excited about proudly sharing my gift with others and carving out space for what brings me joy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother is my greatest inspiration. She created an environment that encouraged me to explore ALL of my aspirations to the fullest. I believe that her openness to allow my creative freedom to have no limits made me follow a colorful path of discovery to where I am today. Thanks mom!
