Meet Dayana Sabatin | Writer, YouTuber & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dayana Sabatin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dayana, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve never really had any ambitious career interests, I grew up loving books and dreamt of writing my own one day, when I graduated high school I felt lost and pressured to go to college which I did but then quickly dropped out. I figured, if I have one life to live, I’m not going to waste it trying to please others or chasing after some career I don’t actually want.
I decided to move to Los Angeles, because I knew that if I wanted to be within the creative world, I had to envelop myself in it. I started off by food blogging, then writing self-help and relationship articles, and eventually I started doing YouTube.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a writer and content creator. I come from a tech background, I’ve worked at various start-ups and corporate companies like Yahoo. I always knew I didn’t belong there, but I tried to fit in. I tried to move up the ladder, I gave it my all, but in the end I knew I didn’t want to be part of that world.
I wanted to be my own boss, I wanted to have the freedom to experience life without worrying about a paycheck and having to be at my desk all the time because of a boss breathing down my neck.
I started writing online in 2020 and it was scary but it felt right. It was almost like I’d been sleepwalking throughout my entire life and finally woke up to knowing what my purpose in life was. To create, to entertain, to relate to others. I had a lot of imposter syndrome due to comparing myself to others, as we all do, but as time went by I started to feel more and more confident in my decision.
I’ve learned that at the end of the day you need to follow your gut, as corny as that sounds. You can’t listen to others when you’re trying to decide what to do with your life, because people will either project their wants and needs or judge you for yours.
My brand is constantly evolving. I’m in the health and wellness space, but I’m also a self-improvement and relationship writer. I love cooking, I love fitness, and my main goal in life is to be a great wife and mother one day.
I also hope to be an inspiration for girls one day, and I want people to know that it’s okay to not want to be a fancy doctor or a fancy engineer or whatever it might be. It’s okay to want to be slow, and simple, and creative. You obviously need to figure out how to monetize that, but if it’s what you truly want, then you need to go for it and just do the damn thing. It’s better to die trying to do what you really want than spend the rest of your life commuting to a job you dread every day.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Los Angeles is an absolute dream. I won’t live anywhere else, maybe NYC but I’m a beach girlie. In my opinion, life is better in the sun and by the water. I feel like LA is a superfood. We have the best weather, the best food, some of the most attractive and most fit individuals live here– it’s a great place to live.
If my best friend was visiting, we’d hit up the following spots:
Gjusta in Venice: You will find some of the best pastries in town here. The croissants are fresh and you’ll be transported to Paris when you take a bite of a pan en chocolate (a friend from Paris confirmed this).
Explore Beverly Hills: There’s nothing more fun than dressing up and hitting the town. I love going to Rodeo, it’s beautiful, clean and the neighbourhoods are so fun to drive through.
Malibu: This is where my heart is. My dream place to settle down. Point Dume is a beautiful spot to go to, there’s a little secret spot there I went to when I first moved to LA with some friends, we made a bonfire and I stood by the water, looking out into the ocean and wondering how on earth I got so lucky to be in a place like that.
Groundworks/Blue Bottle: I’m a big coffee gal, and Groundworks is a great and local spot over here on the west side. However, sometimes I cheat and go to Blue Bottle, they have the best black cardamom latte there during the fall season.
Main street in Santa Monica: This street used to be extremely famous, and on the weekends you’ll find it buzzing with people, eating and bar hopping. It’s the perfect spot to hang out on.
Abbot Kinney: I love it here. It’s beautiful, the shops are so fun to go to, there are coffee shops, restaurants, it’s always buzzing.
Gjelina: One of my top favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. The best pizza spot in LA if I’m being honest! This is also the sister restaurant of Gjusta, so you know it’s delicious. Everything is sourced from local farms. Try the blanco and guanciale pizza and thank me later.
Bestia: I don’t venture to this part of town much (the arts district) but I will walk there from Santa Monica for Bestia. This spot has some of the best cocktails ever, the food is outstanding, the quality is perfection.
Gold’s Gym: arnold comes here, need I say more?
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My partner has always been my biggest supporter. When I told him I wanted to drop out of college, he told me to do it and to chase after what I truly wanted because he knew I was capable of achieving what I wanted out of life.
