We had the good fortune of connecting with Dayna Mance and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dayna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Ever since I was a young girl, I always knew I wanted a clothing store. I ended up working retail most of my life and and spent ten years at a corporate retailer. I had the burning desire to go out on my own. I knew I would be ok if I failed, but I knew I could never live with myself if I didn’t try.

What should our readers know about your business?
The love I have for my business has never wavered in 7.5 years. I am proud of my curation and the wonderful artists and brands we carry and support. Every year we grew a little bit and took more steps to be where we are today. There have been many challenges around every bend. We even closed a store and a newly opened pop up shop during COVID shutdowns. But we kept on going, one step in front of the other. I never lost sight of what I had to do to keep my business alive. And I am proud to say we have grown in the last eight months, focusing on our marketing and online shop. When you shop at Prism, you are truly supporting a small, women owned and operated business. We have eight hard working employees and five freelancers that are part of our team. We also carry over forty small brands that you support when shopping with us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lets hang out in Long Beach for a day or two, then head to the desert! First stop, lets stop for coffee at Frontier in Yucca Valley and then head to check on the house I am remodeling there to become an Airbnb. Then lets go for a desert hike and end up at Red Dog Saloon in Pioneertown for a craft cocktails and tacos at sunset. Next stop, Palm Desert! Lets stay at The Sands for a couple nights and then thrift shop our way to Palm Springs. Final leg, lets stay at the Korakia while exploring Palm Springs. Favorite places to eat, Norma’s, King’s Highway and Birba.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Chasing my visions and dreams wouldn’t be possible without my husband, Vince. He remodeled and built out the first version of the store. When we expanded the store he did a ton of the work. He has always supported me, listened and helped in any way he could. He has watched our two young daughters countless times while I hosted store events. I couldn’t do it all without him!
