We had the good fortune of connecting with Dean Earls and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dean, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think without risk there would be no entrepreneurs. Without risk, there is few rewards. I’ve taken risks my whole life, some paid off and some failed miserably. But every risk thought me valuable lessons to help me move forward. The key is not giving up when the risk doesn’t go your way.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Playback LA we are all about the vibe. Creating a workspace that just sparks the creative soul on fire.. Our clients fall in love with the space and we provide a one-stop-shop for our clients, not only are we a full-service recording studio but we also have a label, a management company, and a publishing company in-house. Playback is staffed with award-winning engineers and producers. The studio itself has won 2 Emmys, a TEC award, and has been Grammy-nominated for Katy Perry’s Prism amongst other records. Our client list speaks for itself everyone from Travis Scott, P!NK, Katy Perry to Oprah Winfrey and Jeff Bridges. The client always comes first at Playback and it doesn’t matter to us if you’ve sold 100 million records or you’re creating your first piece of work. When you’re at Playback it’s all about you and getting the most out of your time. We bridge the gap between major labels and the independent artist. We are set up to cater to both and love to see our clients networking and collaborating… Playback LA is more than a studio, we are a family.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I actually have a friend visiting right now and I took him to Ocean Prime in Beverly Hills for his birthday, its a good spot. But I have to say Davenports in Sherman Oaks might be my favorite restaurant in LA! I always bring my client and guests there. I also took him for a hike in Griffith which is one of my favorite hikes… And then of course Santa Monica and Venice great places to hang out. And of course a quick trip to Vegas is always a winner for my friends visiting from back home! Another spot I like to have a drink at, well before covid, was sunset and vinyl. A little hidden gem that allows you to pick the vinyl selection. A favorite amongst the studio staff here is Lemon Zest Cafe close by and Irelands 32 Irish pub.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My grandparents, and my parents for supporting my choice to follow the tough road of being a creative. My grandmother has always been a huge influence and supporter of me and my parents never tried to talk me out of the path I chose and that tends to be something I hear a lot from people saying their parents wanted them to pursue a “real” career. The books I attribute to my success would be Napoleon Hills the law of success and Think and grow rich. I’ve also recently gotten into the Dalai Lama and I am loving his teachings. Which is centered more around being happy and successful at life more so than business.
