We had the good fortune of connecting with Deanna Simonian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deanna, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“I have made my way along the path of life through many years’ work until now, and I will go on further with it as long as I have strength in my veins. No obstacle will stop me in my mission because I am convinced of its truthfulness with all my heart” – Komitas
To know me is to know that I am Armenian and this alone has been the inspiration behind everything I have done in my life so far. Ever since I was a little girl, I have learned the history of my people. Unfortunately, that history has been tainted with a great deal of persecution, oppression and bloodshed. My ancestors experienced an attempted Genocide by Turkey back in the early 1900’s. My grandfather, having survived this failed attempt, witnessed his entire family including his brothers and sisters killed right in front of his eyes. The above quote by Komitas is a mentality that was instilled in me not only by my grandfather, but by my people’s history.
As a young girl, I vowed to myself that no matter what, I would never give up on any mission once I started. This mentality has been exactly what has driven me to start Mediafy Communications, to grow it into what it is today, and to never let any obstacles stand in my way. We all take inspiration from something and the resilience and strength of my people is my consistent fuel. The fact that the Armenian people have never even come close to giving up teaches me that I have no reason to quit on anything, ever. Even today….Right now at this very moment, there is a war happening in my ancestral homeland. The armies of Turkey and Azerbaijan are currently attacking Armenia and Artsakh, committing war crimes and causing destruction. And despite all of this, the Armenian people are banding together stronger than ever and persevering, because we have a mission – and that is to protect our identity, to survive and to persevere – which is exactly what we have always done.
What should our readers know about your business?
Mediafy Communications is a full service communications agency based in Los Angeles. Our services include public and media relations, influencer relations, celebrity seeding, content creation, partnership creation and more. I think what makes our company unique is the fact that we are completely upfront about what we think will work, and what we think won’t work. Sometimes clients come to us with all sorts of ideas that they think will be amazing, but we don’t subscribe to the idea of “the customer is always right.” If we think that something is not going to work, we are honest about it. We make honest recommendations and set accurate expectation. We don’t over-promise and under-deliver. We always make sure to achieve the goals we set out to achieve. It wasn’t the easiest thing in the world to quit my salaried job and start my own business. It was actually a decision I hadthought long and hard about for years. It was definitely a challenge to step into the “unknown,” but as I said earlier, I knew that if I never gave up then I would never fail. Throughout the last few years being in business, I’ve learned that sometimes, the unexpected is going to happen and there is nothing we can do about it. We are currently in the middle of a pandemic and it has had an impact on every single one of our clients. We did not see it coming, but we have managed to “roll with the punches” and make the best of it.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The organization that I want to dedicate my shout out to is the Armenian National Committee of America. The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) is the largest and most influential Armenian American grassroots organization. Working in coordination with a network of offices, chapters and supporters throughout the United States and affiliated organizations around the world, the ANCA actively advances the concerns of the Armenian American community on a broad range of issues. They deserve credit in my story because they work tirelessly towards their goals and have inspired me to do the same.
