We had the good fortune of connecting with Deborah Deras and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deborah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my business 23 years ago after a pivotal realization while working for a government agency in California. I was 24 years old, fresh out of school, and eager to make an impact. But I found an environment that didn’t align with my values or vision for life. Many of my colleagues were counting down the years until retirement, dreaming of traveling and living a passionate life later. That didn’t sit well with me.
After spending eight years preparing for what I thought would be my dream career, I discovered three fundamental truths that changed my path forever.
First, I learned that the salary ceiling for my position was $50,000—regardless of how hard I worked or how much value I brought. Compensation was tied to government funding, not performance. That felt stifling for someone like me, who thrives on growth and results.
Second, I realized that waiting 40 years to live a “passionate life” wasn’t guaranteed. Losing my brother at just 16 years old taught me how fragile and unpredictable life can be. I wanted to live fully now, not defer my dreams to some distant future.
Finally, I noticed how many people around me were disengaged and unfulfilled. They had checked out mentally and emotionally, doing work that didn’t excite them. I wanted to change that—for myself and others. I wanted to help people reconnect with their soul’s purpose and create abundance by doing what they love.
With that clarity, I took a leap of faith. In 2002, I left my job and launched my first business, Passionate Living Now, which evolved into Synergy Unlimited LLC. My vision was to inspire others to live with passion and purpose and show them that success comes from aligning with their true calling.
It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was one of the best choices I’ve ever made. Walking away from the stability of a steady paycheck to build a business from scratch was daunting, but it was also exhilarating. That decision has allowed me to live the life of my dreams and empowered me to help others design theirs.
Looking back, I see that this journey was divinely guided. It taught me that when we align with our purpose and take bold, inspired action, we can create lives that are not just successful but deeply fulfilling.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business, Synergy Unlimited LLC, is built on the belief that with the power of synergy, anything is possible. The term “synergy,” coined by futurist Buckminster Fuller, means that one plus one isn’t just two—it’s infinite. When two or more people come together, their combined energy creates a spark that ignites a flame, driving everyone toward their goals with passion and purpose. That’s what I do—I’m the igniter, the fire starter.
Whether I’m working with professionals at companies like Netflix or Google to set aligned goals for success, helping teams reduce burnout and manage stress to unlock peak creativity and innovation, or guiding small business owners in leveraging AI to scale their businesses with efficiency and ease, my mission remains the same: to equip people with tools and systems to achieve their highest potential.
Synergy Unlimited is a corporate training company specializing in peak performance, and we serve two primary markets. First, we work with Fortune 100 companies like Google, Netflix, and Verizon, helping their teams become more efficient, productive, and innovative while staying aligned with their mission and vision. Second, we partner with small business development centers to support entrepreneurs in building efficient digital marketing strategies with the help of AI rooted to grow their small businesses even with limited resources with ease and grace.
Ultimately, my work is about helping organizations and individuals realign for success. To me, it’s not a job; it’s pure joy. I inspire and empower people daily to create meaningful, purpose-driven results. That’s the heart of Synergy Unlimited, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

How I got to where I am today is truly through the power of synergy. I firmly believe in the importance of networking, which has been a cornerstone of my success since I started my business 23 years ago. Early on, I joined the Latin Business Association, and it became clear that the group needed to cultivate and support women leaders. Recognizing this, I took the initiative to create the Latina Business Entrepreneur Network.
Through this network, I organized monthly events where I would speak, motivate, and inspire others. It gave me the visibility and credibility I needed to land my first major clients, including State Farm, Farmers Insurance, NASA, and Caltech. These opportunities came from the connections I built and the relationships I nurtured.
I also believe in the power of providing value. As an infopreneur, I consistently create and share high-quality, actionable content. Whether through live streams, my YouTube channel, or Instagram, I give people teasers of my expertise—showing them the type of value they can expect when they bring me into their organization for corporate training or as a keynote speaker. This strategy has opened doors for me, often through the referrals of professional Latinas within my niche.
From the start of my business to today, professional Latinas in corporate America have been instrumental in my success. They’ve seen my work through networking and digital marketing efforts and brought me into companies like Google, Netflix, Viacom, and JP Morgan. By being visible, sharing content that solves problems, and building trust, I’ve established myself as a trusted resource for corporate training and speaking engagements.
My advice to others is to embrace both in-person and online networking. The combination of the two helps you build the crucial “know, like, and trust” factor that inspires people to hire you. Whether you’re building relationships face-to-face or through digital platforms, consistency and value are key. Networking is how you turn connections into opportunities, and it’s been one of the most powerful tools in my journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Marina del Rey feels like being in a hidden oasis within Los Angeles. It’s nothing like the hustle and bustle most people associate with the city. With the ocean on one side and the marina on the other, the vibe here is calm, peaceful, and rejuvenating. Whenever friends from outside LA ask how I can live here, I always tell them—it doesn’t feel like LA at all.
One of my favorite ways to soak in the beauty of Marina del Rey is by paddleboarding on the water or doing yoga at Yogagua, where the ocean breeze makes everything feel more grounded and serene. For nightlife, you can find me dancing with friends at Bizzo, the rooftop lounge at the Renaissance Marriott, where a live DJ sets the tone every Friday and Saturday night.
When it comes to dining, Casa 12 is my go-to spot for incredible Italian food. They have live music and a fantastic happy hour every Sunday from 5 to 7 PM, which makes for the perfect end to a weekend. But Marina del Rey is also the ultimate place to unwind and do nothing at all. Sometimes, I walk along the beach, meditate at Jamaica Bay Inn while watching the boats come and go, or just sit in stillness, soaking in the peace this place offers.
Living here feels pure joy, vitality, and balance—a perfect mix of activity and tranquility that makes Marina del Rey a special gem in LA.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to acknowledge my best friend and intellectual property attorney, Lisa Cervantes. I was excited and terrified when I started my business and landed my first big contract with Verizon. I didn’t know how to navigate the world of corporate negotiations, I wasn’t confident in understanding my own value, and I had no idea how to protect myself or my work. Lisa guided me every step of the way.
As an infopreneur, my intellectual property is my most valuable asset, and Lisa has been instrumental in helping me protect it. From copyrights to contracts, she ensures that my business remains safeguarded and, just as importantly, that I remain aligned with my worth. Her wisdom, support, and friendship have been a cornerstone of my entrepreneurial journey, and I’m forever grateful for her role in my success.
