We had the good fortune of connecting with Debra Ray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Debra, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired and led by God. When I sit down and write I am in a trance. It’s my love affair with Him. I will sit and meditate on something I may have heard in a Sermon or just reading and poems will come to me. I’m in the process now of writing a fictional series and I’m inspired by different memories of my life
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am retired but I was a Certified Dialysis Technician and I was good at what I did. I cared about my patients and catered to their needs. When you spend approximately 3-4 hours 3 times a week you develop a relationship with them and their family. I enjoyed my job and when you like your job you don’t mind going everyday
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like the Shedd Aquarium The museum of Science and Industry, The DuSable Museum and Navy Pier. I like to eat at Batters and Berries Tgifriday Uncle Julio Chicago Chicken and Waffle Gibson’s
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God is always 1st, My husband Clarence my children T-Ray and Corliss and my family natural and spiritual and my 1st Lady Prophetesses Brown and Pastor Elder Christopher Brown who recognized my gift of writing before I did. Also Apostle Jennifer Davis who told me to keep a pen and paper by my bed so when God wakes me up to write I am prepared
