We had the good fortune of connecting with Decker and Katja Sadowski and Amirkhanian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Decker and Katja, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The authenticity of our brand. Each piece is something that we both needed in our own closet to make our lives better. Life has enough obstacles. Swimwear doesn’t need to be one of them! I saw a meme on Instagram the other day that said, “Every swimsuit for women now is like, ok you must feel comfortable showing your entire butt, have absolutely no vulva, and know how to tie the most advanced sailor knot around your torso.” We aren’t saying you should ditch your skimpy bikini– but we will always be committed to giving women other options consistent with our mission of making chic, comfortable and liberating swimwear for women.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are most excited to influence change in the swimwear world and have trunks be a staple in every woman’s closet. Our current days are scheduled up to the minute and a spontaneous stop at the beach or jump in the lake at the top of your scheduled morning hike seems like a long ago dream. But we believe that trunks can change that mindset. Their optionality and convenience can make a workout class turned beach picnic a regular occurrence in our regimented lives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
9:00AM Head to Erewhon in the Palisades for to-go breakfast burritos to eat while hiking up Temescal Canyon.

12:00pm
Head to Malibu for a surf lesson and hit up Malibu Farms after for lunch! (in La Trunk of course!)

6:00pm
We are all about an early dinner at Giorgio Baldi for a special occasion.

9:00pm
The Comedy Store or The Groundlings to see LA’s finest!!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We’d love to dedicate our shoutout to our family, including both our parents, Katja’s husband and her in-laws. Both of us switched career paths to create La Trunk Swimwear and each of them provided love, encouragement and mentorship, making it easy to follow the saying, “It’s never too late to follow your dreams.” Without their belief in us, La Trunk Swimwear would not have been born!
