We had the good fortune of connecting with Ziba Shirazi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ziba, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
At the beginning of my career, my end goal was sold out concerts and best selling albums, fame and… but after being in artistic world for more that 25 years, I realized there is more into life and in what I do. Today I like to bring change into people’s life, I want to make a difference. I think there is a much more value in what I do these days, weather it is singing or storytelling, or writing memoire, the end purpose is healing and bringing people closer to oneanother.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the first Iranian‐American writer, singer, songwriter that not only wrote all my songs, but also despite all the obstacles single-handedly produced and promoted my seven albums since 1990. As a Poet and music artist, I am best known for my poignant songs and storytelling through poetry. Referred to as the ‘Voice of Women’ in the Iranian community, my lyrics are colored by passionate feminist tones, love, compassion, and universal human stories.
I got here by working hard and being patient. I was never easy. Being a women, immigrant, and independent artist didn’t come easy specially 25 years ago, when the Iranian music industry was mainly run by men who didn’t think much of female singer, yet alone songwriter!
I would encourage every artist to NOT TO depend on others to dictate them what to sing, what to write and what to … be yourself, do what is right for you and the rest will follow.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I start the day at Gjusta bakery in Venice, for best Tahini Croissant and coffee. Then a good long walk by the beach. I will take my friend to downtown Disney Concert Hall and drive her around the downtown area. I was told “if you want to show LA to someone in two hours take the rout from PCH to Downtown to show the high and the low.
As for evening entertainment, I pack a basket with good bread, cheese and… and take my guest to my favorite place, Hollywood Bowl to enjoy a concert on the sky.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family. My two sisters who were always supported me not only morally but also financially. They allowed me to follow my dreams. Also, my FANS. Those who believed in me and followed me in concert halls, supported my music by buying my albums and encouraged me to go invest on next album. As well as my readers who purchased my book.
