We had the good fortune of connecting with Delo Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Delo, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business started from me working for other people and simply not being happy with my day to day life. I knew I had to make a change and I knew it started with my environment, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I want to first say that my brand is my baby and she wears many hats. I am an actress, stand up comedian, producer, model, and writer. Being a plus sized Black woman from Detroit is what sets me apart from the masses. I am absolutely proud of the woman that I have become. I honor myself through sharing my story in my art. My art is my life and I treat it with the upmost respect. This journey was not easy. I had to fight for every seat I have at the multiple tables that I sit at. Did I want to give up? Yes. Did I? No. It’s not in my nature to give up. I keep going for myself, my family and for the future generations to come. The biggest lesson I’ve learned throughout this is to stay grounded in yourself. Be so confident in who you are and what you’re about that no one can shake you. You win the war every time with that mindset. I want the world to know that Delo Brown is a force to be reckoned with. A true star in every aspect of the game.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Seeing that my friends love to visit me, this question is perfect! I would take my friends to a few of my favorite places around Los Angeles to eat. The first stop is always Randy’s Donuts after the airport pick up. Next, I’d tell them we are going to freshen up, get dolled up and hit E.P. & L.P for a cute drink and vibe and then hit Bottega Louie Downtown for some of the classiest pizza and nicest drinks ever. For the rest of the trip I would take them to Malibu, the beach, hikes up the mountains, Runyon Canyon of course, and we must hit the Malibu Safari Wine Tours. And last but not least, eat tacos until we can’t eat tacos anymore.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my business partner in crime, Jamilah Jackson. Jam is person who has helped build the foundation of Delo Brown. She has been there for me as a friend, business partner, Executive Assistant,PR Strategist and most importantly supporter. Throughout it all she has been a solid asset to this team and I thank her from the bottom of my heart. I could not have done any of this without her.
