We had the good fortune of connecting with Dena Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dena, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My biggest and number one goal with starting my own business was to literally fund my oldest son’s college career. That has been the driving force behind the entire thing and really has evolved into a true passion that I had no idea would come about. I’m literally having fun and if someone would have said it was going to be fun when I first started, I would have immediately doubted it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The one thing that sets me apart from others is my HUGE PERSONALITY. I’m super talkative, always smiling and I genuinely love people. Without the ability to connect with people my process would be rather difficult and hard to define. Life was definitely not a walk in the park, but, when you want better you strive to do better. I put myself through school both at the undergraduate and graduate levels and worked so hard. HARD WORK has been apart of my process and that’s all that I really know how to do is work very hard for what I want to succeed at. I’m the kind of person that is super ambitious and driven so if you tell me that I won’t be able to do something, I’m going to make it a priority to accomplish that thing and set the bar very high. I grew up in the inner city and when you see things around you that aren’t necessarily fair or right, you want to change things and not to become a product of what others have it in their minds that you will become. I have learned that you are the CEO of yourself and that if you want it bad enough you will find the means to make it happen. And honestly, some times that road was not always easy. However, with each bump in the road there was a lesson that I learned and a story that I can now tell. What I want the world to know about my brand and my story is that it’s authentic. With the desire to inspire and empower I want to do it in a unified manner and working every day to make that possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh my best friend knows that she would be in for the time of her life. I’m a party all wrapped up into one. Everything would be an adventure from the type of food that we would eat at the Roof on Wilshire so that we would be able to take in the breathtaking views of Downtown Los Angeles. I would have to go easy on her during her first night into town. We would just have a good time laughing and talking and eating. We would have to visit Catalina Island to be sun kissed by the rays and to enjoy the beach atmosphere. Enjoy things like parasailing and zip lining and just living our best lives for a few days. For sure a spa day to pamper ourselves. But let’s not forget about being rough and rugged and being able to riding quads and the like in Palm Springs. I would want us to laugh, be happy and just let our hair down all while enjoying the outdoors and doing things out of the norm.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Family is everything and my two boys who are 19 and 7 and then my better half are the driving forces that keep me going. My better half is a true believer in being an entrepreneur and he really pushes me. When you have a family and you are looking to take care of them as well as create generational wealth you think about them the entire time and just keep on going.
