We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Cullins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denise, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have always had a passion for event planning. I started interning for Flawless Weddings and Events in 2012 and overtime became a Lead Coordinator. While assisting with weddings I realized there was an untapped market that we were over looking, the wedding from the Grooms vantage point. We always focused on the bride and making sure she had the best day ever, but I wanted the groom to have the same feelings about his special day. So I thought about all the things that can potentially happen prior to the wedding and on that day, thus The Groom Effect.

The Groom Effect is a full-service concierge agency, assisting men with every detail from proposal ideas to custom styling for the day they say I Do. We create the ultimate wedding experience for the groom. Services include ring shopping, proposal execution, engagement shoot planning and styling, bachelor event, and much more…

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart is that there are very few (if any) groom concierge services within the wedding industry. That’s why I felt like it was so necessary to start The Groom Effect. I am really excited to see my company take off and have the opportunity to work with amazing clientele, maybe even some celebs and high end clients.

Starting a business takes a lot of courage and patience and I have learned that everything works on God’s time. I took the initial leap and am working to build my brand and I have faith that everything will fall into place and all my hard work will pay off.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Do people still go out? LOL.

I think like most people Covid has done a number on my social life. But when I did go out I loved concerts and musical theatre so if a friend was visiting I would see what’s playing at the Pantages or what performers will be in town. I am also a total foodie, so I am always looking for a good food fest at the Rose Bowl or in LA.

I love supporting black owned businesses in my community so we would definitely visit Perry’s Joint or the Pasadena Fish Market to grab a bite to eat.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The one who deserves the most credit is God. I am thankful for His guidance, encouragement, and putting the idea for The Groom Effect on my heart.

Second would be my amazing husband Alex. He supports and encourages me constantly. I am so thankful to have him to keep me on track when I get discouraged and remind me why there is a need for The Groom Effect.

Lastly, would be Tracy Bowles, the owner of Flawless Weddings and Events. Tracy is my boss, mentor, family, and so much more. She believed in me when I said I wanted to be an event planner, took me under her wing and literally taught me everything I know. I am so thankful for all the years I’ve been able to stand beside her and absorb her knowledge and years of experience.
