We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desiree, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Yes, I do have an affirmation I live by which is “time will tell”. This saying has meant so much to me throughout my life because if you think about it, no matter what, time waits for no one and life flies by so fast. Therefore, valuing the true meaning of time has allowed me to value and prioritize the type of life I’m creating for myself. Over time in my life I’ve realized the importance of working hard to rightfully earn the things I have, as well as the importance of continuing to always learn and grow in any space that I enter. My goal in anything that I pursue is to succeed in being impactful while making a difference in the lives around me. My advise to others is that no matter what happens in life good or bad as long as you continue to work hard and grow time will tell, and the outcome is based on how much work you’re willing to put in for the results you want in life throughout time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist in the Emergency Department at a level one trauma facility in San Francisco. I also am a model and aspiring actress and entrepenuer. What sets me apart from others is that I save lives by day and can strut fiercely on a runway by night! I have multiple careers that are completely opposite from one another and for most people it would seem nearly impossible to have time for both. I am very proud to say that my love and passion for all that I do and all that I aspire to do is what keeps me driven, I feel as though I’m constantly evolving. I am excited about what’s next for me in all of my careers. I’m excited to soon be applying to nursing school to obtain my RN license and further my career in the medical field. I am also excited to bring my business ideas to life with the start of my work scrubs company D.E.S scrubs which stands for Designer Everyday Scrubs (IG: @d.e.scrubs). This has been an idea I’ve had for such a long time and I have a great feeling about it being very successful. When it comes to my creative world I am proud to have pushed myself to be less shy and more outgoing and going after things that may have scared or made me nervous to try. In doing so, I got the opportunity to walk in runway shows for New York and Los Angeles Fashion Week which bursted my confidence and helped open new doors for me. In order for me to be in the positions I am in today, professionally in the medical field I had to work hard and study in school to earn my license to work in the Emergency Department. I currently am simultaneously attending college classes to earn my BSN while also pursuing modeling and starting my scrubs business. Nothing comes easy, everything I have now and everything I am working towards requires me to have to take the time out to learn, study, and master the material in each of my worlds in order for things to flow and function. My motto is time stops for no one, and to never fold on yourself. I have had many long days working multiple 12 hour shifts in the hospital then getting dressed at work in order to attend a modeling event. I’ve made a commitment to myself to do everything that I love in life and with that comes sacrifices and grit. I feel like so many people are intrigued yet inspired by my work ethic and how I manage to have a pretty demanding career, and chase my dreams. I want the world or anyone who’s watching me grow or who’s influenced by what I do to know that you can do more than one thing in life as long as you’re willing to prioritize your happiness and put in the work. I want people to know that the theme of my life story is health, happiness, love and success, I can only hope to impact others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would want my friend to get an idea of what life in the Bay Area really feels like. I’m from San Francisco so I’d like to sightsee using bart or muni to commute. We’d grab a quick lunch at either Freddie’s sandwiches in North beach near my old middle school Francisco, or go to Pier 39 for Trish’s mini donuts or we’d go to Mission Street for a burrito. Although, the Golden Gate Bridge is nice, I’d take my friend on an authentic tour of the city to neighborhoods like Potrero Hill, The Bay View, Visitation Valley, and the Fillmore, in order for them to experience where the true culture and influence of the Bay Area comes from. I’d also take a friend to visit Oakland because that’s where the town has a thriving nightlife and Oakland has so much history and diverse cultures. We’d go to the first Friday events, have a drink at Hello Stranger and then end the night with the best street tacos from the green taco truck Tacos Mi Rancho at Lake Merritt.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely! I have to give a special and loving shoutout to my village of parents my mother Brandie my dad Anthony, and my step dad’s Greg and Chris. Without them, there would be no me. I am so blessed to have loving and supportive parents, they literally have supported every thing I have done in life like running track, playing piano, ballet, gymnastics, cheerleading, my career in the medical field and my modeling and acting dreams. I would also like to shoutout some of my favorite photographers and friends ArtbyBlack and Framedbytwoface and Hytz for supporting my modeling career and making time to shoot any and every concept their support has helped me grow as a model tremendously. Also, huge shoutout to my TrapxArt family and dear friend executive director Viola Choice for creating a safe platform for creatives like myself and others to come together and thrive and knock down doors for better opportunities. Lastly, I would like to thank my family and my day one friends who always are excited to watch me conquer new challenges in life.
