Meet Desiree Choy | Artist & Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Choy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Desiree, how do you think about risk?
Even though I grew up in risk averse environments, I’ve always had the desire to try and experience things I never have. While I wouldn’t say I just like taking risks for risk sake, I think this desire naturally led me to pursue things that were outside the “safe” zone. With new experience and risk though, came more reward. I started seeing the connection between following passions/curiosities with meaningful outcomes. These days, I’m learning more and more that the best risk or bet you can take is the one on yourself, and that you can never lose if you do!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
While my goal is to make R&B/Pop that feels classic, sultry, and honest, people tell me they like that the music feels “cinematic.” I always think that’s really neat, because while I’m not necessarily doing it consciously, I’m happy it’s perceived that way. It’s a cool way that I feel my acting and music interests blend, and I think both disciplines feed each other in ways my subconscious can’t even explain! I always love picturing the video for whatever lyrics/songs I’m writing, because I love it all.
Music and film have always been my heartbeat, and it’s taken courage to pivot toward them because for a long time I let pre-existing ideas what I could/couldn’t do hold me back.. The doubt, juggling careers, and sometimes pure exhaustion taught me that alignment matters more than speed.
Through it all, I’ve learned to trust my own voice. Third Day on Earth — my brand and creative world — is about savoring presence and making space for beauty, and simply enjoying life. I truly hope that in my own journey to honoring my dreams, I can help others feel more empowered to follow what lights them up too.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oooh! I’m such a beach gal, so definitely a few trips to the beach—whether it’s my backyard in Venice, or checking out the waves at Zuma in Malibu. Secondly, LA Kbbq is top, so would definitely bring them to my favorite spot Yangmani. Such quality meat and banchan. We’d have to take a few strolls along Rose Avenue, and then Abbot Kinney, for shopping, smoothies, and snacks. If they were down, a trip to Universal is always so fun. Si!Mon is another favorite restie of mine, and really the only one I know that serves upscale Panamanian food. Finally, the LA salsa scene is bare none in the US, so I’d have to take them out dancing at Members!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely. First, my family deserves the biggest shoutout — they’ve always been my foundation. Even when they felt uncertain about me pursuing the arts, they’ve always shown their love unconditionally. They taught me the importance of being genuine and kind above all else, and that’s something I carry with me in everything I do. I also have to give mad props to my creative circle, which shows up for every late-night talk, the wild ideas, and celebrates every milestone with me. I’m endlessly grateful to the mentors and collaborators who’ve poured into me, stretched my vision, and taught me to trust my voice. Creating music and stepping into acting isn’t a solo journey, and I feel so lucky to be surrounded by such talented, generous people.
And finally, I’d give love to the places that shaped me: my home city of San Francisco, which gave me my perspective, and my current home in Venice, which has been fertile ground and fuel for this chapter of my life.
