We had the good fortune of connecting with Sami Davis Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sami, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I am a HUGE fan of taking risks! After 2020 (may that year RIP), I’ve learned nothing more than to take risks and truly go after your dreams. I wouldn’t be where I’m at today if I didn’t take risks – it has shaped my entire life and career. I love to encourage others to stop asking “What if?” and try replacing that with “When?” or “How?” An entire shift in mindset can help propel you forward. Remember, your dreams and goals should scare you! Take the risk and go after them because we only have one life to live.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is always changing but focuses on ink illustration and mixes it with media like watercolor or gouache. I also make my own paint, which is something that sets me apart from others. I love to draw inspiration from nature, traveling, camping and animals. Almost everything I draw has roots in nature. My journey to get where I’m at today and even develop my style was NOT easy. Most folks think success is a straight line, but it’s more like a bunch of squiggles that are constantly overlapping, and sometimes even going backward. As simple as it sounds, I just kept going. and when I truly exhausted an avenue, I pivoted. It’s about confidence, motivation and learning to be flexible. There’s no manual on how to be an entrepreneur or artist. I’d love the world to know that my brand is here, always here, as an inspiration. I just want someone to see my work or our website, take a breath, find inspiration and then let that inspiration help them grow, too.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in the South Bay area (Torrance, Redondo Beach, etc.) so I have a big love for this area. I would tell them to: DO / SEE / VISIT: – Manhattan Beach Pier – Hang at the Del Amo Mall – Catch a sailboat into the sunset off Redondo Beach Pier – Check out the Torrance Farmer’s Market on Tues + Sat – Hike around Palos Verdes – Visit Venice Beach – Hang out at Santa Monica Promenade – Go to the Getty Musem EAT: – Check out OC’s new Rodeo 39 and get the Banh Xeo Boys – Get your boba fix at Ding Tea – Stock up on the best snacks at Tokyo Central – Try Rascal’s Teriyaki – Grab coffee at The Boy and The Bear – Get your pastry fix at 85 Degrees Bakery Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Heck yes! I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without all of the love, support and kind words from my husband Nathan, my business coach Solandrah of Solandrah Education, my gals at Soda Pop PR and my family. I also have been loving the book Profit First by Mike Michalowicz.
