We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Kaufman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Desiree, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Well for starters my main focus is to work with coming of age girls and women in their child bearing years. The gist of everything can be encapsulated with this statement, healed women heal women. The main problem women are facing in today’s age is that many are feeling quite disconnected with their womb space. They are experiencing PMS, PCOS, or other hormonal imbalances, meanwhile they are getting gaslit by the whole culture to think they are crazy for experiencing big emotions, and moving through the waves of the month.. The big picture for what I wish to bring to the world through my business is to help us all (men included) heal our relationships with the womb. There is so much power stored in that pelvic bowl that not enough women know about. It’s ancient knowledge. It affects our sexuality, the way we see ourselves, the way we view our bodies. And what is the benefit of giving a woman full permission to be her fullest most authentic self? Again, healed women heal women. When more of us give ourselves permission to share our wisdom, the better the world gets.
What should our readers know about your business?
I got to where I am today business-wise by trusting my intuition. I started my career in the fashion industry as a celebrity wardrobe stylist. I know, kinda huge pivot! Haha, but the direct through line was that I got the hint that something wasn’t right in our culture… There is a lot of malpractice and shenanigans, as we all know, in the medical industry. I’m not a doctor, but I am so interested in this topic. And when I get into a topic, I go all in! So what I have consistently learned is that there is a special intuition we have as women, and that the more that we guide women to that power, the better off we will be. The growth in my business has really come from having the courage to seek the truth and deliver the truth about our bodies. The brand is really based on a story about helping save humanity against the harms of relying solely on the Western model vs. our ancestral knowledge. Bringing femininity back is not your normal “feminist” movement, it is more ancient than that. This is folk knowledge from wayyy back when! If you catch my drift.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Haha well take it from someone who is born and raised in LA for 29 years! I now live in a mountain home in Northern California, so that shows you already a bit about what I think of the city haha. Although I do have some favorite spots in the city… Okay, so — the only reliable organic place in LA — and the one that will gouge your pockets! Erewhon. I love visiting over the weekend to get their grass-fed, carrot-finished cheeseburgers with my fiancée. I would go to the Calabasas one before heading to my fav secret Malibu beach spot that I can’t tell you about. We would sleep in the canyon overlooking the ocean and wake up to the foggy Pacific-side mornings and have cacao in the morning. We would go shop at Abbot Kinney and have some Gjelina pizza. Which is better Gjelina’s in Venice or Heirloom Pizzeria on Melrose? Gosh that spot in West Hollywood is the best! What else? Honestly I would take them to hang with me and all my girlfriends that are still living in Topanga. We would do any one of April Zanot’s yoga classes in town, before going to the farmer’s markets in Calabasas, Studio City or even the Sherman Oaks one on Tuesdays. Ideally this best friend is visiting during the summer so that most of our time is spent basking in the sun in Malibu. Inn of the Seventh Ray, La Chingona’s Tacos, Endless Color. And then end the week with maybe some type of plant medicine ceremony? wink wink 😉 We would do all of our crazy eating at least a couple days out so we can stay clean for the ceremony.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I give a strong shoutout to Free Birth Society for all of their codes and teachings about sovereign birth, and for exposing to the world the insanities of how the modern health system treats women’s wombs. Shoutout to all the sisters who are bringing back ancestral practices and treatments of the womb and the newly born. I honor all of the mothers and grandmothers and ancestry who have walked before us, and to the earth. To all my guides and mentors that I have had along this journey.
