Meet Devereaux Banx | Makeup Artist & Mystical Deity

We had the good fortune of connecting with Devereaux Banx and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Devereaux, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
When I think about my legacy, there’s a rush of humility that comes over me. I want to be remembered for my artistry and my impact in the world of beauty and creativity. I think one of the best things we can do is to inspire the next generation to do more than what we are capable of. I want people to look at my work and see my heart in it, so that they can find something within their own hearts and create something completely different and unique to them! I want my legacy to be built on building up the next generation of artists coming up.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets my makeup apart from others is that I take inspiration from the smallest areas of life that most don’t pay attention to. There are way too many people who are so focused on weeds that they don’t appreciate the beauty of the forest, and when you take that time you really get to appreciate how much the minor things in life really makes our lives more fruitful.
I’m always most proud of my progress in my makeup. I always strive to be the best version of myself in my looks. I like to think I have a very worldly outlook who “Devereaux Banx” is. They are a deity living life through the human (or sometimes inhuman) experience.
As far as how I got to where I am professionally, it really didn’t start that way intentionally! Haha. I have always had a love for makeup artistry, even as a little kid, so naturally one day I just decided to go to Walmart and buy a bunch of makeup products to learn how to paint. I looked terrible! Haha! But over time I just kept practicing in the mirror, trying new things, and now I’m in a place where I feel incredibly confident and happy with my makeup.
When the world looks at Devereaux Banx, I want them to know that I am an incredibly talented artist who was born and raised in Detroit, Mi. A place where there are so many talented people deserving of a place where their talents can be appreciated. With my legacy, I would love to open museums showing off the makeup artistry of many talented artists out there. A place where makeup classes can be taught, people can sell their home made makeup, etc. I’d love to have a place for artists to flourish and be celebrated for their art outside of just doing makeup for other people’s best moments.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I currently live in Phoenix, AZ and baby let me tell you, it is honestly so beautiful out here. We would definitely have to be in the pool around all the palms trees with a cocktail (or three!). We would go to all the nice restaurants and eat to our hearts desire, go do some much needed shopping, and then have a much need in house makeup and movie day with a bunch of our favorite snacks!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to show recognition to my best friends and family. They have all been my safe space since day one, from when I just decided I wanted to do makeup as a hobby to now where 2 years later, I’m thriving in my artistry. If it wasn’t for the love and support of my loved ones, I wouldn’t know my value in order to meet my full potential.
