We had the good fortune of connecting with Devin Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devin, why did you pursue a creative career?
I don’t if I so much as sought a “creative career field, as much as I started to intentionally making it a goal to experience the breadth of ways creativity can be found in the workplace. Creativity was never taught as being something financially reliable or encouraged to pursue seriously because a lot of these industries are incredibly competitive, everyone is out here trying to be an artist, or an icon, but you obtain any level of “success.”

It was important that I pursued the things I generally like doing, regardless of how conventional that looked to past generations or what I have been taught success should look like. Silencing voice discouraging me to pursue the things I wanted in life meant being honest about what was going to truly make me happy, exercising creativity within/apart of my career is an important aspect of that.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is focused on supporting others to feel seen, heard and live well in accessible and sustainable ways. Day-to-day, that looks like consulting and creating content and strategies for wellness brands and companies for their ideal customer, as well as coach clients in healing their relationship to food as a holistic nutrition coach.

Working with wellness brands specifically gives me more agency to speak toward the clients I coach, that are frustrated or overwhelmed by the surplus of products on the market that are intended to make them live healthier lives.

This places me in a really unique position, whereby, I can bridge the gap between customers and companies, seeking to create healthier communities and support individuals who seek sustainable ways of optimize their health.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you know me, you know that my love language is good food and music. First stop is my favorite taco spot, Korean or Latin eatery, (Los Angeles has a surplus to choose from, and never miss on authentic Latin flavors I grew up on.) Los Angeles is also known for their oh-so-lovely rush-hour traffic, so I will be playing DJ with a curated playlist that will keep us company in between their desired food-crawl. We might wait out traffic with a scenic route down PCH, or make a point stop by Santa Monica or Manhattan Beach. If I have the pleasure of hosting friend for a week, we will definitely seek out live music spot or enjoy the view from the top of one of my favorite hiking spots, and no, it’s not Runyon. (You’ll have to DM me for the address).

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are countless individuals who deserve all their flowers for the consistent support and encouragement they extend to met

God, and my brothers and sisters in Christ who know how to intercede for me when times get tough are first to acknowledge. I have been fortunate enough to have a really strong circle: my tribe, my family chosen and not, each play a strategic role in anchoring me when I lack grounding. Lastly, a huge shoutout to my clients, who whether they know it or not, have given me confidence in the spaces I get to exercise my talent/expertise; that type of trust and level of drives my pursuit for purpose-filled projects and partnerships.
