We had the good fortune of connecting with DevRaj Patel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DevRaj, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’m an avid daydreamer, which helps me be a visionary entrepreneur. In addition, the experiences I’ve encountered and the knowledge I’ve gained have allowed me to create Jivati. My thought process is always ongoing and it never stops. I continuously try to find new ways to optimize and gain a competitive advantage. There was a lot of research involved in figuring out how to differentiate Jivati from a saturated market. At home, I often create unique formulations by mixing distinctive ingredients to understand different flavor profiles and functionalities. As I continued to understand my competition and the current market, I realized many of the companies in the beverage industry were providing the same types of products with different pitches to attract people. Nothing was being solved, and consumers were simply getting the same products in another packaging. I wanted to solve a problem and have fun with it. I finally decided to enter the beverage market with a three-tiered method approach: Create a Brand Lifestyle (A brand with an actual unique story that inspires people), produce Holistic Products (Products that have a real need in the marketplace), and provide Innovative Ingredients (Plant-based & multi-functional ingredients causing a degree of disruption). With this strategic approach and an energetic, experienced team to help deliver this beverage concept, Jivati would be an influential brand with a social impact.

As I mentioned earlier, the beverage industry circulates the same products filled with sugary and artificial ingredients that should not be available in the market. People are spending thousands of dollars on healthcare due to unhealthy beverages. My goal is to provide consumers with multiple healthy products that will allow them to live up life. For example, if someone consumes something harmful for an extended period, their chances of developing health issues will be very high.

On the other hand, if someone consumes healthy products, their chances of living an active life will be greatly increased. The overall goal is to change the beverage industry to focus more on consumers’ health and not just make money. If we listen to the consumers’ needs, create innovative healthy products, and provide a meaningful way to enjoy life without causing harm, I believe we can cause a change in the beverage market. Everyone loves having good company, and this is an excellent way for Jivati to bring everyone together to celebrate life. Also, I’m an American Indian, and I would love to display my culture and other ethnicities through Jivati. We’re all the same; we just have different flavors, and what better way to share our unique story than over a Jivati beverage.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a first-generation born Indian in America, getting a college education was very important. My parents moved here so our family would have a better life. I went on to get my master’s and worked for different companies to advance in my professional career. However, I was never satisfied and would switch jobs every few years. I started to ask myself what I actually wanted to achieve in life. Is it a successful career or me simply being happy? I realized I wanted to positively impact people’s lives in my own way. Yes, I could have been a doctor, a therapist, attorney, or any profession that would help people, but that’s not my persona. I always think creatively, and I needed the outlet to do it on a grander scale.

I created a business that is more influential as a brand than a stand-alone product. Jivati is a movement to inspire others to lead a healthy and fun lifestyle. The company’s slogan is to “Live Up Life” and I am excited to see people embrace this vision. We hope Jivati will inspire people to be the best version of themselves. I believe true motivation is internal and that they are the superhero to their own story. Jivati is here to help spread happiness.

I understand that the path to being a successful entrepreneur isn’t always easy. I welcome challenges and see failures as opportunities as opposed to mistakes. We all go towards a path, and if the road ends up being the wrong one, we can pave a new one and keep going. My life’s adventure has been a complicated map, but being able to create a company that helps others has made me realize that the journey was worth it. Everything is a lesson learned. I am open to every possibility, and having the right people around to guide me increases the chances of success. I’ll have to deal with obstacles while trying to disrupt the beverage industry, but past experience has taught me to always keep learning and I look forward to the challenges ahead.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I enjoy being out and about. I’m a very sociable person, and so are my friends. I rarely have an itinerary; I tend to enjoy life by living in the moment. When my friends come to visit, we usually hit up the beaches in Laguna, go to a few rooftop bars in LA, go down to San Diego for a day to wander around, and kick it at the crib here in Irvine to recharge for the next day. I have been very fortunate to have amazing friends. I moved here from the east coast about three years ago. We may not see each other often, but it seems as if we have never been away every time we meet. Since moving here, I have met new people who have also become close friends. I have a very tight circle, and I consider them more family than friends. The energy that we have is unbeatable, and it’s very desirable to others. One day I would love to get all my friends together and make a trip to Joshua Tree. It would be a great getaway from the noise and a chance to catch up on each other’s life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Many people have directly and indirectly impacted me in conceiving Jivati. From close family members and friends to strangers who I’ve met briefly. I easily get inspired by hearing people talk about their lives and how they have positively impacted others. I believe people are walking books, and there’s so much more to them. I have a very long list of people who deserve a shout-out and I do bring them up in my conversations when the opportunity presents itself. I definitely do not deserve all the credit.

As I mentioned before Jivati was created based on my life experiences. One particular person who wants to remain anonymous has played a significant role in inspiring me to create Jivati. I always thought I was the strongest person until I met them. I witnessed true strength firsthand by seeing them face one of their greatest fears and overcoming it. No matter what they were going through, they never gave up. Maybe one day, when they’re ready, they can play a part in Jivati. I want people to realize they are not weak, and one of my goals is to help encourage them to never be afraid. Fear is something unknown, and once you understand your untapped potential, fear no longer exists. Jivati is going to light the way for people to shine out of their darkness.
