We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Amaya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My throught process before starting my business I was a little nervous but I was all in. I always liked the idea for working for myself and having the flexibility with my own schedule. Being a cosmetologist was something I always wanted to be since I was young

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is my authenticity and the kind of person I am. I’m a 100% firm believer on being a good person and my intentions on being a good person. What I’m most proud of is just doing what I love, which is doing hair l, creating art and uplifting other women. How I got to where I am today professionally is working hard, pouring into my own cup, and believing in myself. At the end of the day we only have ourselves and the opinions that matter the most is what you think of yourself, not what others think of you. It’s hasn’t been an easy road. When I first started I was going to cosmetology school full Ike 5 days out of the week and working the night shift 9-4am at Raising Canes for 10 months straight. There was a lot of times that I wanted to give up. When I first got into the industry I was only working as an assistant for 2 month and COVID happened. No one was working I felt discouraged I was barely starting off the salon I was working with at the time wasn’t really encouraging me and I didn’t know much. Then I met the right people and my career started taking off as in building my clientele. The lessons I’ve learned along the way are dedication and hard work pays off. Always put God first and everything is possible. What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that anyone can do it. Doesn’t matter what your background is where you come from. I’m a first generation daughter my parents from Mexico & El Salvador. My goal and brand is to eventually create financial freedom for myself to end that cycle of having to be at work to make money. My goal is to show other hairstylists different ways of income without having to be there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were to be visiting the area I would take them to Venice beach and go to eat Tito’s tacos in Culver City. I would also take them to Perch in downtown LA. Take them to Rodeo Drive. Also to the Glendale Galleria. To Echo park to paddle boat on the swans.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost I would like to thank God with him all things are possible. I would like to thank my Dad. Without his support financially and emotionally I wouldn’t have been able to afford to go to cosmetology school. I would like to shout out my old assistants Amanda & Marissa for always believing in my vision and always being there for me emotionally. Always pouring into my cup. My Uncle Jojo he’s also is a cosmetologist ever since I was a little girl encouraged me to pursue this field. I also read a couple books that I love that I feel like have helped me in my business which are “The Greatest Secret” by Rhonda Byrne, “Never Eat Alone” by Keith Ferrazzi, The Power of Intention” by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, and “Rich Dad Poor Dad “ by Robert T. Kiyosaki.
