Meet DJ EPIC | DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ EPIC and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DJ, what inspires you?
I am inspired by living life to its full potential so my most important inspiration is time. I spend time on what means the most to me because time it is the only thing we can’t get back and we never know when time will run out. While I have the time to do it all I take full advantage. I prioritize my bringing happiness to people, starting with the ones closest to me. My family and friends, I am inspired to make my mother proud, and to show my nieces and nephews there are several paths to success. I am inspired to leave my mark in this world and I’ve been able to achieve that through the curation of music. Music is also a huge inspiration it makes people happy, and as a DJ there is no better feeling then seeing a crowd of people enjoying the moment.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love music. With music I’m always able to express myself while creating a vibe. Curating a playlist for an upcoming event is genuinely exciting because I’m not just making it for myself, I’m making it so others can feed off the energy I’m bringing them. When I get booked for an event it’s a blessing because it says someone is allowing me to walk into a room/space and set a tone for the night. So much pressure yet so fulfilling when the job is not just complete but successful! I love those looks I get when I drop a hot track or when people look over their shoulder and hit me with a wink, or even that infamous finger point. I know I’ve done something right when everyone is busting out their best dance moves.
I have achieved success by being relentless in my craft, I’ve put in the work, I’ve studied music and admired other DJs and took small tips and added it to my own creativity.
There will always be challenges and but my best advice is to be adaptable. When I first began DJ’n I would spend hours curating a set, and one day I showed up for a set and accidentally deleted it. It was showtime and instead of fumbling, I had to adapt and go off the vibe of my crowd. I quickly realized I have to be confident in my craft so playlist or not, the job still has to get done. I truly have this ability to read my audience and build the music vibe for the night from there. As a DJ you often face several challenges from equipment malfunction to audio issues but it is so important to be prepared to go with the flow. Adaptability will definitely take someone far in the world of entertainment. Specifically for music it is important to expand on the many different genres. I enjoy being versatile in what I can bring to the table. Meeting new clients and creating the exciting night they envisioned is the job and to do that I have to be able and willing to adjust, adapt, and expand as needed.
I want people to know that I am here to provide an experience through the expression of my music. If you don’t have passion as a DJ your client might as well have a playlist on shuffle.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother Nancy Jordan deserves so much credit because she has been there every step of the way. Larry Holden, a man who has been a father to me, is a HUGE inspiration in my life and my drive for success is hugely accredited to him. All the DJ’s who took me under their wing and gave me all the tools I needed to be successful. Cypher and George Huge thanks to you both. Jamal from millennium age has always been supportive and given me the opportunity to showcase my talents for some of my largest crowds love you bro. In loving memory of Bryan Baylor aka Bda Bo$$ who will forever live on in my heart and memory. My Twin for life!
