We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ Fraioli and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DJ, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand, goes all the way back to 2013 (before I even knew what I was building).
You see I was overweight my whole life. I used food as my coping mechanism, during good times and bad. It was my go to during my parents divorce. This poor relationship with food also led to me reaching 245 lbs. I was depressed, not exercising and now being in college I was drinking a lot.
It was on New Years Eve 2012 where I didn’t make a resolution but a promise to myself to change. This single moment, it changed the whole course of my life.
– From 2013 -2014, I lost the initial weight
– 2014 – 2015, officially dropped 95 lbs and took my first step on a bodybuilding stage
– 2016, stepped on stage 2 more times
However, it was 2018, I found myself in a constant rollercoaster ride of binges. Also, I moved to Boston, and was away from family which was making me more depressed.
On New Years Eve 2018, I made another promise:
1. Get a job back toward my family
2. Take back control and fix my relationship with food
Both were accomplished and in 2021, I launched DJ Frai Fitness. You see it’s through my success and failures in my own journey that has allowed me to build the platform for my online fitness and nutrition coaching.
Since I personally have been through it, I can really relate on a whole different level to all of my clients. My passion pours through when I am working with them and on this company and it’s why it’s getting the recognition it has today.
The next plans are to continue to document my clients successes and further document my journey back to the stage (next show 4/30/22).
It is through changing myself, that I am able to change the lives of so many others!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What is unique about me and my business is that it all stemmed from my personal journey. It was in me taking control of my life and getting my self healthy (95 LBs lost) that my business formed.
At the start it was just to lose weight, but what happened was so much more. I began to have a passion for finding ways to get the body you want, in a non-restrictive, healthy way. I began to pour everything I had into this.
It is the foundation of my coaching. I teach people to stop letting a number on the scale depict their worth and instead show them what they can do with proper programming and understanding proper nutrition.
I used to hate how overweight I made myself, but looking back now, if I was to be given the option to go through it again, I’d 100% say yes. It forced me to learn and better myself. This has made it where I can now lay the pathway for all I work with and lead them to all their goals!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Connecticut in general doesn’t have many great spots, but I have my favorites in surrounding areas!
We would first need to go into NYC, and hit broadway to see Lion King (by far my favorite play). After this right across the street is the best pizza I’ve ever had (Johns of Time Square)!
After this we would need to cruise back to CT and into Newport, Rhode Island (my absolute happy place). We would run the Cliff Walk, and then take a swim at Eastons Beach (being by water is my favorite thing to possibly do)
Last, we would finish with dinner at The Mooring. The view of the marina as you eat, watching the sunset, this is a must see!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I was lucky enough to grow up with an amazing mother and 4 older sisters. I really have been a big dreamer since I was young, and not once along the way has any of them ever tried to talk me out of my ideas (and I’ll tell you, I have a lot of them).
They are all in my corner always, and push me to be so much more. This shout out goes to them, because without them, I don’t know where I’d be in my life.
