We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ Nightstalker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DJ Nightstalker, what is the most important factor behind your success?

It’s actually hard to believe that I’ve been DJing for over 20 years! I would say one of the most important factors behind my “success” has been staying true to my underground roots and keeping it real wherever I go.

I genuinely love making people dance on the dancefloor and taking them on deeper journeys as well. Each set is a chance for me to share my love of music with listeners and is a privilege I never take for granted. The electronic music scene in general is constantly evolving and while it’s important to stay current and incorporate fresh sounds into my sets, I’ve always made it a point to never chase trends blindly or compromise my vibe for the sake of popularity.

Whether I’m banging it out for new-school ravers at undergrounds like Lick N Dip or smashing up the dance for my OG Bassrush or Respect family, each and every session is designed to connect with the dancefloor on a deeper, primal level.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Getting to where I am today professionally was anything but easy. I paid my dues playing countless small clubs and underground parties, while also working hard to build a reputation as a respected writer and editor for magazines like URB, XLR8R, Knowledge Mag (UK), and Bassrush. Balancing my passion for DJing with my career as a USC professor has also added an extra layer of challenge.

Looking back, I’d say the creation of my Primordial weekly on Vibeblow was a game-changer, providing an outlet for upcoming talent while also attracting heavy-hitters like Pendulum, Black Sun Empire and Photek. Those early years helped me hone my skills and make invaluable connections. I definitely spent a lot of time behind the decks as I worked my way up from being a bedroom DJ to headlining clubs and playing raves.

Looking back, even though my DJ name is kind of sketch now that I’m older (haha), I would hope that my journey inspires others to pursue their artistic passions, while never losing sight of what it is that makes them unique.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

First and foremost, my fans deserve huge credit and recognition. Without their passion, energy, and unwavering support, none of this would be possible. From the early days playing small clubs in L.A. to playing major festivals like EDC Mexico, they’ve been right there with me, creating an incredible vibe on the dancefloor. Their dedication and love for the music inspire me to push my creative boundaries with every performance.

I also have to thank my fellow DJs, MCs, and producers in the drum and bass, techno, and house scenes (too many to name and once I start dropping names I will inevitably forget someone!). The camaraderie and friendly competition within our community have been invaluable in helping me grow as an artist. So many of them have offered guidance, shared insights, and provided opportunities that have been pivotal in my journey. It’s a privilege to be part of such a talented and supportive group of artists that I also consider family on so many levels.

We can’t forget the promoters who are the real MVPs, making things happen on the local, national, and international scale that also deserve a massive shoutout. They are the ones who take the risk and put in the hard work to create the incredible events and platforms that allow DJs like myself to showcase our talents. Their passion for building vibrant music scenes in cities around the world is what it’s all about.

Finally, a shout out to my friends and family (especially my wife!) who have not only put up with my crazy hours and schedule but also encouraged me to chase my dreams, even when the road seemed uncertain. Their belief in me has been a constant source of motivation and strength, especially when things get hectic and challenging.

Success is never achieved alone. I am grateful beyond words for the love, support, and memories I’ve made along the way. Big up!
