We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Becton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The inspiration for establishing the Dominique Becton Film and Acting Academy (DBFAA) stemmed from the shared passion of my husband, Judge Becton, and me, to nurture talent within the film and acting industry. Together, we identified the need for a dedicated platform that would serve as a showcase for aspiring and established actors and filmmakers, facilitating connections with industry professionals. Our vision extended beyond conventional training methods, as we aspired to create a comprehensive environment that refines artistic abilities and establishes connections between talent and opportunities.

At DBFAA, our commitment transcends the mere teaching of acting and filmmaking techniques. We provide a distinctive and immersive experience where students not only learn the craft but actively participate in the industry. Whether acting in DBFAA films or contributing to the film crew, students gain hands-on experience beyond the confines of the classroom, embodying our motto, “From the classroom to the set.”

Our goal is to equip students with practical skills and real-world insights, ensuring their preparedness for success in the competitive realm of film and acting. This hands-on approach distinguishes DBFAA, positioning it as a dynamic hub where talent converges with experience, enabling students to seamlessly transition from the classroom to the set.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My commitment to training students to hold themselves and those who support them accountable is what sets me apart. I emphasize the importance of paying attention to their goals and understanding the necessary actions to achieve them. I take pride in the fact that most of my students have either completed or are on the verge of reaching their goals, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel toward their dreams.

My professional journey has been guided by my unwavering faith in God, supplemented by prayer and open communication with my husband, who is my accountability partner. Consistent study of my craft ensures that I remain fresh and equipped to support my students effectively.

The challenges along the way were overcome through prayer, faith, and a refusal to be paralyzed by fear. I focused on the present task, trusting the process rather than worrying about the end of the story.

One key lesson I’ve learned is not to succumb to fear, which can lead to self-destruction. I remain determined not to let fear hinder my progress.

I want the world to know that DBFAA offers more than just acting and filmmaking training. We are a community of champions dedicated to guiding and teaching individuals to overcome life challenges. Every student at DBFAA is viewed as a champion, and together, we dominate every endeavor we set our minds to. Our brand is built on the principles of support, growth, and the belief that everyone has the potential to achieve greatness.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My heartfelt shoutout goes to Kim Carruthers, an A-List Celebrity Wellness Coach, who played a pivotal role in my journey. Back in eighth grade, she served as my dance instructor and became a source of inspiration, encouraging me to believe in the seemingly impossible. Kim’s unique coaching style resonated with me – firm yet loving. She instilled a sense of self-worth, making me feel good enough.

Her coaching methods have a lasting impact, and I always aspire to emulate her approach. As I engage with my own students now, I find myself drawing from the lessons I learned from Kim. Her influence has shaped my coaching and directing style, and I am grateful for her positive impact on my life and my approach to teaching.
