Meet Dominique Williams | P.R.A.Y. – Party Right All Year

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my business because of my children. We love to celebrate our children and love throwing parties for them. As those celebrations added up, I began to think: What can I do that not only helps cut the cost of parties but also brings in income. That’s when I turned to something I’ve always loved – making treats.
When it came time to name my business, I wanted it to reflect more than just baking. I wanted it to reflect me. Outside the kitchen, one of the things I cherish most is prayer. It’s not just a hobby – it’s what grounds me. Prayer has held my business together through every challenge, and it continues to be the foundation of everything I do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One of the things I love most is when my clients trust me to take the lead. I’ll ask for their desired colors or theme, and from there, they give me the creative freedom to bring their vision to life. That trust allows me to truly pour my heart into each order.
What sets me apart is the level of care and attention I give every single treat. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, if it’s not something I’d be proud to serve at my own table, I won’t sell it. Over time, I’ve also learned to recognize my worth. The time, effort, and detail I put into my work isn’t something you’ll find at a grocery store or fast-food bakery. It’s just me, I bake, I package and deliver every single order on my own. There’s no team behinds the scenes, just a whole lot of passion and commitment.
It took me a while to confidently price my work according to the time and care that goes into each creation. I used to fear that higher prices would scare people away, but I realize I was selling myself short. Today, I take pride in every order I complete, and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a client’s face light up when they see the final product. I want the world to know, I cherish anything that carries my name, and my business is a true reflection of who I am.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d make sure they got the full experience, great food, fun vibes, and some peaceful moments too.
I’m a foodie and so are all of my friends, I’d make sure to kick things off at one of my favorite local brunch spots, somewhere that had bottomless mimosa’s, great vibes, and beautiful scenery. I recently started selling my pastries at some of the local farmers markets and shopping boutiques, so I’d make sure we stopped by and supported other small businesses and did some local shopping at one of those.
Midweek, we’d visit a local museum or art walk to soak in some culture, followed by lunch at a hidden gem, one of those places where the food speaks for itself and the service feels like home. In the evening, we’d find a rooftop or cozy patio spot for dinner and drinks.
Of course, we can’t forget about dessert. What better opportunity would I have then now to have my friend taste some of my desserts. I would prepare one of my most popular desserts for them.
We’d also take time to visit a scenic park or trail for some fresh air, maybe even pack a picnic. And no visit would be complete without a chill beach day or sunset view if the area allows for it.
Overall, I’d plan the trip around food, good energy, and experiences that really highlight what I love most about where I live. I want them to leave feeling full, both in spirit and stomach!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe so much of my success to my family and friends – especially my husband, who has been my number one supporter every step of the way. He encourages me constantly, believes in my vision, and reminds me of my strength when I need it most.
My entire family has played a big role in this journey. They’ve pushed me to keep going, even when I felt unsure of myself. Both of my sisters have children, and they were among my first clients, hiring me to make treats for their parties. It was at those events that people first began tasting my work, and soon, their friends started reaching out to hire me for their own celebrations.
I also made cake pops and cupcakes for my friends’ birthdays, which led to even more opportunities-many of them asking me to bake for their children’s parties as well. At work, I brought in homemade treats for the holidays, and that turned into a steady stream of clients. Now my coworkers eagerly wait to see what new goodies I’ll come up with for each special occasion.
