We had the good fortune of connecting with Doris Muna and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Doris, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I started my career, work just took over my life. I poured my heart and soul in my business. There was so much to do and it seemed there were not enough hours in the day. The balance was tipped heavily towards work.
As life takes you through all the journey bends, I encountered several set backs that forced me to take stock of my life and re think how I was spending my days.
Balance is putting all your self, health, relationships, work, and all you do on that balance and see how well it is balanced.
Is one area of your life over used, under used, or actually balanced.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started my business over 20 years ago after I had health challenges. I was amazed how the energy healing and alternative healing was so simple, yet effective. If I could only help other, that would make my heart so happy and feel a fullfillment that I can do good to others. What set me apart from other healers is I knew a lot about the energies of the body. Having studied the Meridian system and Chakra system of healing, having intuitive abilities and connected to the flower and nature remedies, I was able to use all of those skills to help my clients. The results were amazing. one happy client brought in another and the next thing I knew is I was full pledged into helping others reach their optimal health and full potential. Helped them get to their happy place.
I started a line of flower essences which are the vibrational healing energy of flowers and that tied in all my skills, as clients were able to use those flower essences between sessions to keep their healing on track.
We created the “Home Healing Therapy” of flower essences where a person can do their own healing using the flowers and their gentle healing properties.
I would extend my healing services to my clients’ pets, and also to their homes and offices, where my knowledge of Feng Shui would help shift energies to the better and give my clients a more fullfilled life, that would attract abundance, great relationships, and harmony.
My work is now moving more to corporate wellness where we address discord, destress and anxiety in the work place. Our corporate wellness program is a culmination of all the knowledge I have related to energy and the person’s wellness in themselves and their environment.
It was not easy setting up the business. I was a gifted healer, but a business takes all sorts of roles to keep going. I needed a web person, social media, accountant, tax person, bank, rent, insurance, legal and all other expenses a business requires.
I was not qualified for any of that! all I wanted to do is heal people and that’s it. So I learned from spending endless hours catching up with work that was all background support of the business, and it always took me so long to complete.
So I met a business coach and she clearly outlined why I need to outsource all my to do lists to professionals whose job was to help people like me focus on their expertise and leave the rest to competent help.
It was the easiest transition and decision I had made.
That is how I gained the balance in my life.
I was able to delegate, and focus only on my expertise.
It was a life changing shift.
I so advise anyone early in their career is not wait, until they can afford it. but to outsource and hire help. The amount of time this would free up for you is so well worth it as you can then focus on your business and get the balance life you need.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would pick up my friend from LAX and drive to Santa Monica pier. Take a dip in the ocean, lunch at one of the many vegan restaurants in the area, a favourite of mine is Gjusta or Rose Cafee in Venice beach then head on to PCH going north. short hike to lake shrine spiritual sanctuary. Stop at the Getty museum for a quick tour, keep going north past Camarillo for a quick stop at the outlets to buy a jacket for my friend at a great price. Then off to oxnard, for some authentic mexican dinner and crash for the night.
Next day to Ojai meditation mount, Krisha Murti spiritual school and some healthy breakfast.
Drive up to St. Ynez and visit a couple of wineries. Solvang and have a healthy lunch, down the coast to Santa Barbara.
Visit main street and hop to several small restaurants on the way, for drinks, snacks, meal and crash for the night.
Visit carpentiria on the way back to the airport for some great brunch options, walk on the beach and deal with LA traffic while all the time chatting with my friends and so happy to see them.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A big shoutout to my husband, children, friends and clients who all shaped my career and helped me have an amazing journey of recognition and appreciation. I could not have done it without them!
