We had the good fortune of connecting with DougieTheDon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DougieTheDon, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been a person who isn’t afraid to express how he feels.. I have always been in love with poetry and the ability to write your experiences on paper so transferring that to music was easy for me. Mix that with the love and passion for music and the product was undeniable. Being able to tell my story and my truth through music while seeing people relate to what was said on a song I created, is the most satisfying part about pursing this career

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m proud of the fact that I took a chance and chased a dream that no one expected or thought was possible. I had such an amazing journey from music videos, Spotify placements, commercial contracts, opening for artist like Dave East, OT Genasis and others. I have been on Shade 45 with the La Leakers. I have been nominated for music awards as well. I mean I have done so much in such a little time and I’m so grateful for the experience. If it weren’t for my close circle and the support from them I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I have achieved. It has been such a difficult and mental challenging pursuit but my hunger got me through everything. Through it all I have learned how tough and cold this industry is but I also learned how music can change and save lives for mine has been a prime example of that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are about the food here and the places I say is a must is Stuff My Turkey and DB’s Cajun Kitchen. Both black owned with a great staff and most importantly FIRE food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God is who I would like do give my shoutout to. My last EP and my goodbye to this industry is in fact a Gospel album I made called “To The Most High” over the past three years I have created over 10 albums and I have been featured on many other artist’s songs in between that. I had created music for myself and others and this time I wanted to create something for the lord himself. For he is all and I’m just grateful for life and his blessings.
