We had the good fortune of connecting with douglas donehoo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi douglas, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I would say being a self-starter and having steely determination and focus are the biggest keys to running your own business — in a successful way! many people start business & fail, it takes a a combination of the above factors to excel. key factors are things like making sure that your revenues outpace your costs! elsewise, you’ll be out of business in no time! the success of my brand relies on the above factors mixed with a sense of style — what primarily do men want in their athleisure wardrobe. what are other brands failing to deliver. we have an incredible mix of styles especially in shorts, capri, and long pants. our fits are tailored. and ultimately our product is made from sustainable fabrics and 100% manufactured here in Los Angeles, CA. so this helps to fulfill clients desires to “buy local & sustainable” whenever they can.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Doug had a career in private banking but wasn’t satisfied with the challenge of shuffling and managing the funds of wealthy clients. With a passion for environmental awareness, he sought to make a difference. In addition to becoming a member of the Natural Resources Defense Council (www.NRDC.org), he also bequested to have his eventual estate left to this organization (+Greenpeace & WWF) so that they could continue the legendary work they are immersed in – nothing other than saving the planet from profit-driven corporations & governments that worship at the altar of economic growth without regard to ecological impact. Doug believes that consumption is fine – as long as it’s done in a sustainable manner that is fair to the planet. His current pursuit: to make the clothing industry accountable for its fabric choices and construction processes. He knows the more successful 4-rth becomes, the more influence it will yield. Additionally, he drives an electric vehicle, has 100% solar roof at home, and is adamant about consuming less energy, recycling, and constantly coaching his friends about their own habits and the resulting impact!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In the greater Los Angeles area, i would want to take them to Joshua Tree National park for starters. it’s an epic and surreal location with incredible hiking and stunning, natural, raw beauty.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My passion is sustainability. as a species we cannot simply consume, consume, consume, without regard to the inputs and resulting outputs that are violently degrading the planet on a daily basis. thus, my greatest shoutouts, go to the organizations that I support, personally and via 4-rth, that work to protect the environment, our habitat, and other species: Greenpeace, the WWF, and the NRDC are 3 of my absolute favorites in this space.
