We had the good fortune of connecting with Dovelie Lovelie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dovelie, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
My emotions, my willpower in an environment that I believe wasn’t intended to provide a nurturing nor accepting introduction in the world, and how my imagination helped navigate the pitfalls of otherdom and/or dismissal. My family’s independence, and mother’s vulnerability, which she also used as a strength.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Some may say the vision starts when the brush makes impact on a canvas or the ink on parchment, but I believe the origin always begins when dreaming.
I make art to be able to express the sacrifice through ancestors made for my being here shall never be in vain, nor taken for granted.

To be truly valued, and to not be desensitized as an accessory,  I intend to contribute artistic expression to our limitless influence culture and foundations in society.

What I’ve learned so far in making art is that the practice of continuity while remaining present with one’s work, is a never ending mantra. You never stop learning, and are absorbing new techniques in your practice while also learning new things about yourself when manifesting a project.
Whether it’s a painting, or a poem, I try to address both as much honesty and insight into the work with a reminder of my humanity.
I never want to leave out my personality, and try to apply it as dressed upon or snugged in somewhere within a piece, regardless of the theme. Solemn, thoughtful, and at most times the quiet part is said out loud. A good nap doesn’t hurt, either.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family of both bond and blood, my friends, and for the ones who have suffered loss, but keep sharing their light.
