We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Annie White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Annie, how do you think about risk?
For me, risk-taking has been a central and irreplaceable factor in my life and career. I operate by the motto, “Feel the fear and do it anyway.” In fact, I’ve come to know that the more something scares me, the more important its role is in my soul and life path. If it petrifies me, that’s a good sign I must do it.

Now, I don’t take risks without checking in with my intuition to ensure I’m on the right track. I take calculated risks, not silly ones.

One of my favorite life risks was getting engaged to my now husband after five days of knowing each other. That might sound nuts, but I just knew he was right for me. He felt like home. And his home at the time was in Australia and mine was in the U.S., which is why it happened so quickly. We met and didn’t want to let any of our magic slip away, so we made a big commitment. Twelve years later, I’m so happy I took that risk.

My most recent risk was quitting my job and taking a couple of years to write my book. I’d been working on it for about a decade. It’s called The Calm Code and is a step-by-step process to train your mind to dramatically lower stress and anxiety. I’d been using the tools I share in the book with patients for many years with great success. Then there came a time when my stress and anxiety levels shot through the roof. Once I saw how well my tools worked, I knew I had to take a huge risk and get them into the hands of everyone who needed them.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The journey of writing my book, The Calm Code, started years ago. I’m a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which involves acupuncture, herbal prescriptions, cupping, gua sha, and nutritional advice – all of which have been working for over three thousand years. I love this medicine because it focuses on the root cause of health issues.

After many patient visits, it occurred to me that if I didn’t figure out a way to get their stress levels under control, they’d never be truly happy or healthy. This led me to do a deep dive into the root cause of stress. Know what I found? it’s not about traffic jams, money or a horrible mother-in-law. It all has to do with how your mind is wired or trained, which dictates your reactions to those and other stress-evoking things.

Once I found neuroplasticity which states that every thought, action, and emotion wires or strengthens the corresponding circuits or neural pathways in your brain, I knew I’d found the root cause of our stress. Don’t worry; you don’t need to remember the word it’s the concept that’s important.

Neuroplasticity states that every stressful or worrisome thought strengthens those circuits in your mind. It follows that after a stressful or difficult period of time, your mind isn’t balanced anymore. It’s been physically trained to be more stressed. This is why things can stimulate a stress or worry pattern more easily. There are literally more of those pathways in your mind ready to jump into action.

When I figured this out, I worked backward to fix it. I found all of the scientifically proven ways to train/wire the mind to be more positive and relaxed. I combined them and built a six-week method you can use daily to train your mind to be calm, happy, and balanced while dramatically lowering stress and/or anxiety. You get new tools to use every week. They’re super-powered and like nothing you’ve tried before, because they utilize at least three of the scientifically proven ways to train your mind in each tool.

Then I went through an incredibly stressful time and the tools myself. My stress levels were through the roof, I was anxious, sad, very irritable, and feeling like the worst version of me. Once I finally took my own advice and used my tools every day I couldn’t believe the changes I saw. I witnessed firsthand how well they work and it became my mission to get them into the hands of everyone who needed them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I”m so sorry, I don’t know LA very well. I lived in San Francisco for a long time but only got to LA a couple of times. I’m assuming you want me to talk about LA here?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I’d have to thank my husband, who has been encouraging and supporting me every step of the way. My parents, who raised me to believe that I could do anything, and that integrity is gold. And my friend Stephanie Edwards, owner of The Urban General Store (https://urbangeneralstore.com/), has always been an example for me. She is a successful entrepreneur who isn’t afraid to be true to herself and make her own rules. Her store is a personification of her – you’ll find gifts that are unique, thoughtful, fun, and like nothing you’ll find anywhere else.
