Meet Dr Chantal Lunderville | Founder of Inner Circle, Medical Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr Chantal Lunderville and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr Chantal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Curiosity! After graduating residency in 2018 I did not feel drawn to getting a normal “doctor job” like the rest of my peers. Feeling more drawn to entrepreneurship, beauty and events, I approached my next ventures with a sense of play and joy. I started practicing aesthetics in a concierge format for a few years before launching into events, medical directorship and trainings. Over the next 5 years I would grow my business and also work traditional physician jobs such as urgent care, procedure clinic, and just felt more drawn to the autonomy and creativity that my business offered. Over time I became more tolerant of risk and excited for new ventures. Starting the business is always evolving, I rebrand and start over a lot as the company grows and expands to different ventures. Its important to remain in the beginners mindset even as a seasoned founder!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe that we are all Creators first and foremost. My profession and calling is as a physician, my work is in events and medical directorship, but the purpose that informs the expression of my gifts is a bigger message. The message that my father instilled in me early on, that you must primarily believe in yourself. Many young girls and women grew up without this positive reinforcement and I hope to be the force that helps them say, “If she did it, I can too, I am not alone”. I believe through my business and also how I design my life, through how I dress, cook, design my home, curate and host events, is all a unique expression of me.
I am most proud of being able to support myself after leaving a “secure job”, that even now when I am stressed with my business I can say “at least I can be stressed about my own vision, on my time, and with the team I have chosen”.
I believe I got to where I am today because I have very high standards: for how I am treated, how others ought to be cared for, the communities we live in, and how our work must be grounded in purpose. The traditional models for how this is done in healthcare just did not cut it for me.
The lessons I have learned along the way are that success also comes with loss. Loss of a project you were really excited about but cannot fulfill because you need to focus on the bigger picture. Letting go of clients that you may have gotten close to but that are not a good fit professionally anymore. Growth involves a lot of letting go and I would encourage you to meet it with grace and to be thankful for the lessons.
What I want the world to know about me is that I did everything “right” with the best schooling, following all the rules. This turned out to be toxic for me. Life got so much more fun when I stopped believing there was a “right” or “wrong” path, or following what a “good” person would do. We are inherently flawed, complicated and contradictory. Embrace the messy complicated parts of yourself, this oddly draws people to you! For any fellow people pleaser perfectionists, you can let go! Love your imperfections and life will flow more easily.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Los Angeles is best for those iconic moments and the hidden personal spots you have discovered by chance. I would start my day with a workout class at Bunda, drop by Coral Tree Cafe for an iced tea and cheesy cauliflower, walk along the beach in Santa Monica, and finish up with an evening at the Hollywood Bowl.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A special shout out to very first clients of my business back in 2018. Many of my initial clients were the biggest cheerleaders of my path because they saw my potential and understood the vision. No one rides for you the way your first loyal customers do, because they see what you do before its realized completely! I still have a great relationship with so many of them and they have turned into close friends.
