We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Schulte and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to be my own boss, but imposter syndrome is REAL. I always thought owning a cocktail event company would be an amazing gig, and with the pandemic’s parameters I figured, why not give a delivery service a go? Truly being put between a rock and a hard place financially allowed me to push through the imposter syndrome and just go for it. I’m very happy that I did.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’d say what sets Stir Crazy apart from other businesses is the extra effort I put into getting to know the individual I’m serving. I feel like I take the time to get to know my clientele and I keep an open communication between myself and them.
It definitely has not been the easiest to get where SCC is today. A lot of trial and error, but a lot of great realizations personally and professionally. I’ve become much bolder in my decision making and I stand my ground in situations I would’ve wavered in a year ago.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh wow, this is a solid question. If I were to take a friend out I’d obviously hit up some of my favorite bars.
Depending on the vibe we want we’d go (in no particular order):
• Cole’s for a Bloody Mary ( or a solid Old Fashioned).
• La Cuevita for a mezcal margarita and some cheap beers
• Hermosillo for a fun variety of beers/wine.
• The Roost for a strong pour and some great convo with the woman who bartends. .
• Ye Rustic for a rowdy trivia night.
• The Black Cat or Semi Tropic for laid back vibes.
• Good Housekeeping for a speakeasy fill and a solid craft cocktail.
• Bar Jackalope for whiskey.
And a million other bars – Can you tell I live on the East side?
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that I’d like to thank for helping me build up Stir Crazy Cocktails. First and foremost, my parents and my boyfriend James for their constant support and creative minds. They helped shaped the ideas I had and mold them into something tangible.
I want to thank all of my friends + family! Christina Russo helping me business wise, Jade/Becky/Diego/Gus/Connor/Meredith/Omar for helping deliver, Vicki for batching and tasting. Tristan for bouncing ideas off of. My C&L fam for letting me borrow cars, ordering from day one, and just being the best. Justin/Mari/Missy/Stephanie/Alexandra/Charlette/Richie/KDD for collaborating!! Carlos at Francisco’s for the best ingredients.
All of my customers are phenomenal humans. I’m very lucky to be serving such a cool community of people throughout SoCal.
