We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr.Charryse Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr.Charryse, is there something you believe many others might not?
One piece of conventional advice I disagree with is that building a successful business means going into complete grind mode and sacrificing what matters. It’s extremely important to center your mental and physical needs, and stay connected to those who matter.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Dr. Charryse Johnson, globally recognized Psychotherapist and Owner of Jade Integrative Counseling, was recently selected as Top Mental Health Professional of the
Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his outstanding
leadership, dedication, and commitment to the industry.
Inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor; only a few
members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are
distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements,
leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations, and contributions to their
communities. All Honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP annual award gala during
the year for a night to honor their achievements.

My journey to this point in life has not been easy. I have faced many challenges and struggles, requiring me to heal my past traumas. I overcame these challenges by being a self-learner and extending myself compassion. Whenever I notice myself reacting or responding strongly, I pause and ask myself, “What is this emotional response trying to teach you”? From there, I honor whatever I need to create my own sense of safety and well-being. This process is more challenging than you think because many of us have been taught to ignore or avoid unwanted emotions.
I have learned that we all possess what it takes to heal, move forward, and get unstuck, but we must be willing to face ourselves and do the work. I’ve also learned that it is so important to have support and that we heal better in connection and community.
It’s important that the world understands that despite my education and experience, I am as real as they come. More than anything, I want to be seen as a human and I want people to know that I honor and respect who they are and who they are becoming.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
