We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. David Stoker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. David, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I would say, there are vast differences in the results that plastic surgeons are able to achieve, and it is fairly easy to distinguish these differences between surgeons by reviewing their photo galleries. That’s one reason that I’ve placed 10,000 of my before and after results in our photo gallery in order to highlight the exceptional results and the broad diversity of cases. I hope that patients will review the relevant pictures and compare the quality of the results and the quantity of those cases with other surgeons who they are considering seeing
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I knew in elementary school that I wanted to be a surgeon, and I always wanted to be one of the best. I worked very hard to achieve that goal. I graduated with honors from Stanford. I graduated first in my medical school class at UC San Francisco, one of the top medical schools in the country. I went to the best plastic surgery training program in the world in New York City, and I scored the highest score in the United States on our residency exams. I worked very hard to achieve all of that, and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my wife. When I began private practice, I joined an experienced surgeon in a high-volume practice where I was able to hone my skills to a high degree. 12 years ago, I launched my own practice with a vision for providing uncompromising care for our patients, with both an experience and results that would exceed their expectations. It has brought me great joy to have the skills and the infrastructure to deliver that dream to my patients. I love what I do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Favorite spots in the city. My office is in Marina del Rey, and my home is in Manhattan Beach. I love being by the coast as often as possible. If I was going to show friends around the city, I would skirt along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. We would go for a long bike ride, from Manhattan Beach through Marina del Rey to Santa Monica and back. We’d stop for coffee along the way.
We’d then arrive back home in Manhattan Beach and go for a one-mile walk to the main restaurant area, and have dinner at Fishing with Dynamite, or MD Post.
. We always like to finish this off with another long walk before we head home for the night.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I want to thank my wife, who’s been incredibly supportive while I worked extraordinarily long hours for much of our 30 years together in order to develop my plastic surgery skills and build my private practice. I could not have done it without her. Secondly, I would give tremendous credit to my plastic surgery mentors in New York City who gave me an incredible head start by teaching me state-of-the-art techniques and demanding the very best of me.
