We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Jaclyn Tolentino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Jaclyn, what was your thought process behind getting involved with Love.Life, a startup company in the health and wellness field?

As a doctor, it’s easy to feel like there’s only a few paths to go down, but after a cancer diagnosis in my early 30’s, I searched for the most aligned way to practice medicine, even if that meant doing things a bit differently. I joined Love.Life as a founding Lead Physician in El Segundo, CA before the place even had walls. It represents the future of healthcare—the kind of care I’ve always wanted to provide my patients but rarely had the space to fully deliver.

Love.Life is redefining what medicine can be by integrating expert-led, collaborative care across multiple disciplines. Under one roof, we have physicians, dietitians, health coaches, personal trainers, acupuncturists, physical therapy, somatic healing, and more, all working together to deeply understand and treat the whole person—not just symptoms.

In my years in the wellness space, I’ve never seen a model this visionary, this patient-centered, and this effective at bridging the gap between advanced medical science and holistic, lifestyle-based healing. Patients have been craving a model like this—where nutrition, movement, and recovery are just as prioritized as medications and diagnostics. This is where cutting-edge meets tried-and-true, where East meets West, and where medicine meets real life.

I took this leap because it was fully aligned with my philosophy on health: that true healing requires a whole-person approach, collaboration, and education. Love.Life isn’t just treating disease—it’s creating a roadmap for lifelong well-being. That’s a vision I could get behind.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What Sets Me Apart:

What sets me apart is that I truly believe healthcare should be personal, collaborative, and deeply human. It all comes back to one of the biggest things that’s missing in typical medicine: deep, intentional listening. So many doctors are trained to diagnose quickly and move on, but I’ve always believed that the key to truly understanding a patient—and actually helping them—is to listen. Not just to their symptoms, but to their experiences, their fears, their history, and even the things they don’t think are important. Some of the biggest breakthroughs I’ve had with patients have come from simply allowing space for their full story.

Beyond that, I think my success has come from my willingness to keep evolving. Medicine is always changing, and so am I. I stay curious, I stay open, and I never stop learning—for my patients and for myself. Every step—every challenge—led me to where I am today, practicing functional medicine in a way that actually changes lives. If there’s one thing I want people to know about my work, it’s this: you deserve a doctor who listens, who sees you, and who empowers you to take ownership of your health.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I moved to LA, there was one thing that really blew me away: the California coastline. Taking a drive along the Pacific Coast Highway and stopping at Malibu Seafood is a must for steamed shrimp with an ocean view. Sunset drives are non-negotiable.

In the city, I love a good hot pot night, and we always go to Aki Shabu in Koreatown. For morning coffee, Smoky Hollow Roasters in El Segundo is my go-to before heading into Love.Life. They roast their coffee in-house, and the open-concept space lets you see the process—it’s a little ritual I look forward to.

And, I’m lucky enough that the cafe at [Love.Life](http://Love.Life) is full of delicious and healthy gems. I’m definitely spoiled for choice while I’m at work.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s no way I’d be where I am today without the love, mentorship, and encouragement of so many people. First, my patients—they continually inspire me to dig deeper, listen harder, and think outside the box when it comes to healing. My journey in medicine has been shaped by brilliant colleagues and mentors who have challenged me to rethink what healthcare can and should be. I also have to give credit to my own health journey—navigating breast cancer and fertility struggles has made me a more compassionate doctor and a stronger advocate for whole-person care.

Most importantly, my family. My husband, Charles, has been my rock through so many eras of my wellness, career, and now, motherhood. My son, Koa, has given me the ultimate lesson in prioritization, presence, and what truly matters. He’s taught me a lot about faith and that miracles come in their own perfect timing. And of course, my dog Cali, who makes sure I never forget to move my body and enjoy long walks in this beautiful city we’re lucky enough to call home.

It really does take a village, and I’m endlessly grateful for mine.
