We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Kierra Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Kierra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I just wanted to help as many people as I could with the multiple gifts God has given me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kierra Empowers, LLC offers brand collaborations, photoshoots (photoshoot assistance and posing coach), events (keynote, panels, hosting, author appearances, workshops,, contest/pageant judging), therapy sessions, and online seminars. I am proud of pushing people into purpose. Instead of focusing on one thing I was good at, I allowed this business to serve as an umbrella of all of my gifts to reach as many people as I can. Hiccups come about, but my faith in God helps me overcome any and everything. I have learned to stay humble and that rejection leads to re-direction. I just want the world to know my brand and that it doesn’t matter how you start, how you finish is what counts most.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Greensboro, I would take my friend to Luxe for brunch, Country Park for a bike ride/picnic, Maxie B’s for dessert, the Steven Tanger Center for a Broadway musical, to North Carolina A&T to visit the beautiful campus, and Undercurrent for dinner. Next, Melrose or Marjae’s for live music, then downtown for a baseball game to see fireworks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my family, friends, and all first-generation students.
