Meet Dr. Linda Salvin | Metaphysical Clinician, Healer, Spiritual Consultant, creator of Wicks of Wisdom, broadcaster and author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Linda Salvin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Linda, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My entire career has been based on risk, chance, faith and dedication. I am in an unusual profession, metaphysics and healing, psychic and retail with a candle magic line. I combined my scientific background to the psychic and metaphysical world once I discovered my psychic abilities in 1981 after I survived a commercial plane crash. Life has been risky since birth; that’s a given. My academic path was in health education and epidemiology (big word today with the pandemic) but after opening up spiritually, I began to follow a different path. I had no guidance or understand as to where I was headed. I had no plan or even goals; I just knew I had a new passion and push from something beyond my usual self, to help people and explain there is a spiritual world; my job was to help others explore and embrace it. It has been risk after risk on psychic lines, radio, tv and in publications. It is now 29 years since I began my broadcasting career, right here in Los Angeles on KBIG 104 FM; from there I syndicated my show for 18 years. I took risks in fields I had no training in but was taught by amazing mentors.
I took a risk introducing a candle magic line to people around the country who knew nothing about it, including myself. I took a risk when I hired Kris Jenner to host my TV infomercial, before she had KUWTK. I took a risk each time I appeared on a national TV talk show, was written up in a book or magazine and most of all, dealing with someone’s personal life on and off the air. It’s all been a risk but more doors keep opening, testimonies on my work continue to come to me from grateful people and through each risk my faith deepens that if I continue to trust what I believe to be so, it continues to prove itself to be true and successful. There were times I hit the low, wanted to give up but then, took another risk and the seeds blossomed.
What should our readers know about your business?
I was on company business as an Environmental Health Specialist when the Boeing 737 plane I was on crash landed from San Jose to John Wayne Airport, February 17, 1981. My life changed that day. I was out of my body for 4 months, became very psychic and had no idea about my life. This is pre-internet, so I could not Google for help, lol. I dabbled in Stand Up comedy, played music around town, was offered two record deals but walked away. I often regret it but something inside me kept pushing me toward the spiritual helping of people, talking on the radio and helping in a private practice. I got into radio a decade after the accident, and after some major surgery which enabled me to become a healer. So, the plane crash opened me up psychically. the surgery gave me healing abilities and a few years later, more surgery lead me to becoming a medium, talking to the deceased. No, it was not easy. I lost a lot of my so called friends, through all this. No one understood me or believed me yet as I was out in the world helping others, I developed a following and dedicated listeners to my radio show for 18 years. Along the way, 1999, I was trained in candle magic; I learned how I could assist others with love, money, luck, health, legal problems and more; My Wicks of Wisdom(tm) were born. From the radio and the candles, I produced a TV infomercial; I had been written up in books by authors and clients who knew how I helped them. The candles became part of my brand. Now, several years later, I’ve had a private practice going for over 20 years, my book is about to be published, my radio show streams 24/7 on my own stations, drlindaradio.com and recently a producer asked me to do a TV show, I showed him the treatment I had created in 1994. As many heartaches I have experienced with the business, hopeful events that never happened, broken promises, nearly touching major success to being thrown under the bus, I continue to forge my way in the world with my work. The gratitude at the end of the day is when someone thanks me, acknowledges the fact I had impacted their life somehow, makes it all worth pain and struggle. I basically became a radio pioneer, now a veteran in psychic radio; the format was created with me in 1994 and took off nationally with others and now, of course, on line. I have learned to trust very few people, I have learned that I am very gullible and can be taken advantage of and that thick skin is not always available when needed. I have learned many people take advantage of others in the industry; they scam, steal and copy. I’ve said things to people that ended up on TV when I had NDAs signed, big deal to some; but I did not get credit; I’ve had my scripts shopped around only to find an altered show appear based on my premise after being told no thank you; there have been psychics who tried to bring me down or emulate me as if they had my gift. Whether it is greed, jealousy, resentment, I’ve experienced and keep doing what I do. There is plenty of room for everyone but some of the bashing, bullying and business betrayal took its toll on me; I withdrew from working with the public for awhile to regain myself. I officially retired for mediumship after 22 years, in 2018. I love that I channeld for so many wonderful people to contact, give communication and closure where needed; these stories will be in my book. However the energy that drained me and the toll taken on my life was not worth it so I go out of the paranormal. I love the metaphysical and clinical, integrative health and spiritual counseling that I’ve evolved into. I still have an accurate psychic rating and read for many people from all walks of life; I keep expanding as my brand grows. I have no intention to stop any time soon. I am here for a purpose and ultimately, I know I have a mark to leave upon the hearts and souls of many who need my message of spirituality.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My friend who has never been to Los Angeles would be in my car driving everywhere. We would go through the Valley where I grew up in Sherman Oaks, visit the stores in Studio City and spend hours at Universal Studios for the tour and a taste of Hollywood film making. We would have dinner at my favorite Italian Restaurant, Ca Del Sole on Cahuenga. Another day would be out to Malibu and driving down up coast, viewing the estates, the water, driving through the Village and stopping to eat at Nobu or Moonshadows, We might continue driving north to Santa Barbara to see the beauty of southern California. Walking around and stopping at The Biltmore for a meal and relaxation. The third day would Sunset Strip, the shops, lunch at Boa or the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel. After that, a drive through Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive and walking around to see the famous shops of all the designers then a small run through of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Dinner would be at Steak 48.
The next day would be more east bound on Sunset, then Hollywood Blvd, the Chinese Theater, out for a walk on Hollywood to see the stars in the sidewalk and visit the touristy stores. We would eat lunch at the old landmark, Musso & Franks; we would then drive out to Silverlake and Dodger Stadium and have dinner at Bacari on 3rd Street.
Day five must include a day at Disneyland so off to Anaheim we go. Of course there would not be enough time to visit the entire park in one day but the main events will be covered and we would go on all the best rides. The last day of the trip would be a drive down to Newport Beach, lunch at Lido House, walk around the area, go shopping in town and head back to the Valley for dinner at my favorite French restaurant, Mistral. In between all the driving, would be a trip up to the Hollywood Bowl, the Greek Theater, Mulholland, a drive through Laurel and Coldwater Canyons to give perspective to how my hometown is laid out geographically and for the urban experience of LA in a quick trip through the eyes of a native.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would most certainly thank Mr. Fred Missman, former creative director at KBIG 104 FM and on to several other managerial positions in the creative departments of various radio stations from 1994-2019 when he retired. He gave me my start on the air; He recognized my true psychic abilities and put me on the air for about 6 months. The segment was created to compete with another stations across town. After the project completed, he encouraged me to continue with my own show, teaching me to broker and produce my own. I had not experience in radio but he walked me through all of what I needed to learn. Mic technique, timing, dealing with the callers. He voiced all my commercials, as that was his claim to fame and still voices now in his semi-retirement. He’s been my biggest cheerleader for 29 years on the air. Secondly, Andy Ludlum, formerly of ABC radio and CBS affiliates, opened doors, mentored me and continued to encourage my movement on the air until he, too, retired. I am still in touch with both of these veteran radio professionals as I continue to build a new name for myself in the digital market as opposed to the terrestial markets. AM/FM are not the same as they were in the 90s when I began. More currently, I have a shout out for Christopher Siehr of Dyersville, IA who has been nothing short of a blessing helping me build, construct and implement my own radio station on a major server in the country. We have taken old shows and uploaded the content of my radio psychic days to include my newer content interviewing people and bringing in my spiritual bent.
Jonathan Betton has been my editor since 2007 and continues to work on my team in radio edits now, along with Christopher. Lastly but not least, is my next door neighbor, David Swafford, an Emmy award winning editor, also retired from the industry but helping me with all creative art work, photographs, album covers and digital work for the station or whatever else I’m exploring and promoting. All these professionals have graciously helped, encouraged and gave me strength to keep going when I was frustrated and wanted to throw in the towel. We are quite a diverse group of people with specific gifts and talents, coming together to make this station a new reality as I continue to promote my brand.
