We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr Lori Baudino and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr Lori, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
As a Clinical Psychologist and board certified Dancd Movement Therapist , I focus on supporting the “whole child” mind, body and spirit. If you didn’t know, therapy is a supportive place for everyone to get individualized tailored support. Therapy must involve an understanding of the nervous system. Embodied practices that bring connections to self, others and the environment. A space that is met with compassion and creativity – play and care!
What should our readers know about your business?
My private practice specializes in supporting children and families by looking at the “whole” child. My integrative approach as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Board Certified Dance Movement Therapist, allows me to have a lens of seeing how the body expresses emotional and psychological needs through movement; and how by striping away labels, and going beyond words – a child can truly be understood, will make life long connections and meaningful learning. By understanding both the top down approach of the brain, and the bottom up (sensory/body/movement processes) optimal health can be achieved. My approach is creative, play based and child centered. I work with the child in relation to his/her/their family -supporting and coaching parents to look at the nonverbal and verbal cues. I work in private practice and I also go into the home, community and school. I am a constant learner, collaborating with all fields to understand the intricacy of development and health.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Los Angeles, I have found the beauty comes from the weather, nature, and being around amazing people while exploring and saying “yes” to all the city offers. I would start with a great cafe on Abbot Kinney, walking the local shops and waving at the people. Hike up to any of our local trails – from Malibu state park, to Millard Falls in Altadena (we have amazing hikes and waterfalls). I also enjoy our great parks for kids to run around in nature (temescal and other surrounding areas). And then there is always nightlife – comedy clubs, dancing and great food. An evening/late afternoon is always gorgeous and quiet at our beaches too…so many to choose from. Biking, walking or running! With kids, there are museums, art shows, sports events, outdoor parks and so much more popping up during the day.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to The Andrèa Rizzo Foundation for providing funding and programs at pediatric hospitals around the country including Los Angeles where as the national clinical spokesperson I get to provide therapeutic support using dance movement therapy for children with cancer and special needs.
