We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Noah H. Kersey, Ph.D. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Noah, what makes you happy? Why?
What gives me pleasure or happiness is sharing my life experiences with others to help them grow as well as to prevent them from making the same mistakes I made early in my life while I was an undergraduate in college. I wrote a 120 page screenplay about my life story and hope a filmmaker will option it for a theatrical run or be seen on Netflix or Amazon Prime. It’s a relatively low budget film project with strong ROI potential at the box office.
Here is the information about my script:

It’s Karate Kid meets Rudy meets Shawshank Redemption. A shattered homeless child grows up in an orphanage and goes to prison only to later become a martial arts champion and a doctor – a story of resilience against all odds.

It’s called Malicious Intent. (aka A Stray Bullet)

Synopsis:

Based on my own “compelling” true life underdog coming of age story about a motorcycle riding martial arts champion who grew up as a small boy in an orphanage after being abused and abandoned by his dysfunctional parents and then going to prison for fifteen [15] years for a tragic mistake that almost cost the lives of his high school, college sweetheart and her heroic father trying to protect his family. This is a heartwarming and bittersweet story of God’s forgiveness and redemption which will make theater audiences cry

Genré: Biography, Drama, Sports [Martial Arts].

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I began my career as a licensed clinical psychologist immediately following my graduation from my doctoral program in Counseling Psychology.. For a few years I worked in hospitals, medical centers and group private practices until I had gained enough experience to begin my own private practice which I started from the ground up.

I took bits and pieces of many different business models and synergistically created my own model of practice and business.

What set me apart from other practices was my life experiences of being abandoned and growing up in an orphanage so many of my prospective patients felt I would be more compassionate and understanding of their struggles and emotions because, unlike all other psychologists, I didn’t grow up in a normal family setting with all the advantages that others take for granted. In other words, I didn’t grow up with the proverbial “silver spoon” in my mouth.

In 1993, a news paper editor who had adopted all three of his children heard about my life story and he published an article titled “Noah Rode Out Storm To Thrive” telling his readers that I not only survived but thrived inspite of my being abandoned by my parents as a small child.

I took the article and re-published it on my very well designed website for my practice and people could access it from around the country and quite a few drove or flew from as far away as Boston, Texas and Kentucky to seek treatment with me. My practice grew exponentially from there and I had to hire other psychologists to take other patients I couldn’t see due to the demand this created for my services. It also helped that I was one of the first psychologist who had a website and used the internet to promote my practice. Years later, many others began to use the internet but by that time I well established and had a reputation as the go-to psychologist and often reporters would request interviews with me for various topics like, depression and suicide.

Also, insurance carriers would refer accident victims to me for post-traumatic stress disorder because I had done research on PTSD for my doctoral dissertation. I also receive many referrals from local churches because of the articles I wrote and published about my faith in God and how He/She (God really has no gender. After all, why God would need one?)

Growing up with other orphans made me very sociable and out-going so, I also join a number of orrganizations which also helped me build my reputation in Indiana where my practice was located.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I’m now retired in Florida and live on the Space Coast I would take them to Cape Canaveral to see rockets being launched every few days now. I would also show them Cocoa Beach and have lunch with them at my favorite restaurant on that beach aptly named, Coconuts On The Beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give all credit for my survival and success to God who provided all my role models as I was growing up. He/She placed a lot of great people in my path to help me, encourage me and support me in my struggles to overcome being abused and abandoned by my parents when I was eight (8) years old left alone on a lonely rural road in South Georgia. If God had not inspired the Greyhound bus driver to stop and pick me up I might have died on that road in the middle of the night sitting on my green metal suitcase;

I am grateful for the social worker who diligently searched and found me wandering the streets of Ybor City, a Cuban neighborhood of East Tampa. He found me a home at the orphanage where I grew up and later went off to college in Tallahassee where a few professors took an interest in me, guiding me along my path in life.

There are so many people to thank but, the most important was a man, a minister, Dr. Sherwin J. Broersma because he took the time to share with me his faith in God and taught me what I needed to know to be a believer. He also share much of his wisdom that I later shared with my patients in my family practice over 32 years of being a licensed psychologist.

Lastly, and this may seem unusual to some of your readers but, I’m grateful to my childhood of reading Superman comic books that left a lasting impression on me to help other people in crisis. He was my “father-figure” hero when I didn’t have a real father to look up to as a child.
