We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Sophia Khousadian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Sophia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
If I had to pick just one, it would be discipline. There are different aspects at play here; such as, self-regulation, a growth mindset, consistency, determination, resilience, passion, empathy, conscientiousness, openness to experience, adaptability, patience and various social skills, but discipline is what has allowed me to move forward in my career and to be successful. When you really think of discipline and the true meaning behind it, you realize the impact it has over your professional and personal life. Discipline is that bridge between goals and accomplishments. My career as an educator, a consultant, and Co-Founder of G.L.O.W. Conferences exists due to my discipline. G.L.O.W. stands for Global Leaders for Organizational Welfare. It is an Organization that promotes Conferences for Global Leaders once a year and holds a vision to foster and empower innovated individuals that are invested in success strategies, teamwork, talent management, and leadership skills. The success of my brand wouldn’t be here today without my discipline in my social life, my academics and my professional life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career in the Educational field will always be one of life-long learning and personal rewards. As a professor, my students motivate and feed my drive daily. As for The Global Leaders for Organizational Welfare, it is an organization based in Los Angeles, CA. The primary purpose of G.L.O.W is to motivate worldwide leaders to promote organizations in their own countries. G.L.O.W hosts an Annual Conference for leaders interested in developing leadership skills. The Conferences are open to both presenters and non-presenters. Conference Presenters will be given the opportunity to have their Paper submitted for Publication. The Annual Conference promotes discussion of current topics and concepts and allows Worldwide Leaders to collaborate and exchange ideas. G.L.O.W. Conference Journal submissions are open to various topics, yet centered on Leadership in those disciplines. It is a proud and exciting moment when I encounter driven individuals looking to make an impact in the world. Someone once said, “There is no smooth road into the future: but we go round, or scramble over the obstacles.” Our challenges make us better and give us room to grow. Being able to get out of our comfort zone helps us grow and gives us perspective. I was born and raised in California. My family moved from Armenia to Los Angeles in 1988. Like any other move, it comes with trials and tribulations; whether it be finding a new job, learning a new language, making new friends and creating a home in this new location. Growing up, we had many financial hardships, but the vision was clear. We knew that through the power of determination and discipline, there will be success.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a firm believer in meeting the needs of your audience. Therefore, being that it is my best friend, I know she loves a cute, but cozy location. Therefore, I would say the first place that comes to mind is Paris Tokyo Rooftop Sushi Lounge. All reservations are through Social Media and it is well-decorated location. However, in general, I believe any location is a great location, as long as we are in good company. People’s emotions and behaviors impact us tremendously, so even if it was a drive around town, as long as the company is good, then it will be fun!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success and who I am today is shaped by my experiences. I can’t mention my success without bringing up the topic of family. My family has had a tremendous impact on my success. Their emphasis on the importance of Education, Adaptability, Resourcefulness, and Discipline have helped shape me into the person I am today. I am forever grateful for them and their love and support. Also, I couldn’t speak on my success without speaking about my experience in my doctoral program. I crossed-paths with like-minded individuals that helped push me beyond my comfort zone and supported me unconditionally.
A key book that I personally connected with and recommend to many people is: Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. It is a book that is so diverse, yet personal.
