Meet Dr. Zoë Indigo | MD | Board-Certified Dermatologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Zoë Indigo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Zoë, what do you want your legacy to be?
My goal is to inspire my patients to embark on a journey of skin health that extends beyond the surface, embracing wellness and living a confident, authentic life.
I believe skin health is deeply connected to self-worth, and I strive to create a space where my patients can express themselves fully and embrace their unique beauty. Coming from my roots in Detroit, to traveling the world as an international flight attendant, and now practicing dermatology in Beverly Hills, I’ve learned that no matter where you come from, if you have a dream in your heart, you must pursue it. That’s the freedom I want to inspire in my patients—the freedom to live authentically and confidently in their own skin.
I also hope people remember me as an artist— as a singer and songwriter and the designer of The Medicine Mug, a gift item for healthcare heroes. And as an artist in my approach to dermatology. More often than not, it’s more art than science, and I strive to blend creativity with clinical practice in a way that enhances skin health and overall well-being.
I want my legacy to be one of empathy, empowerment, and inclusivity. I want people to remember that I dedicated my life to practicing inclusive dermatology, where everyone—regardless of their background, skin tone, or identity—felt seen, heard, and cared for.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart in my career as a dermatologist is my deep empathy and unique journey to medicine. Unlike the traditional path from high school to medical school, my experiences before becoming a doctor—like working as an international flight attendant—gave me a broader perspective. This makes me more relatable to my patients and allows me to approach care with greater empathy. In addition, I’m a creative at heart, balancing my passion for songwriting with my work in dermatology. I blend that creativity with science, crafting personalized, innovative treatment plans.
I’m also proud of the research I conducted at the NIH and my medical externship with Harvard’s dermatology department. I’m constantly seeking new solutions to push the boundaries of care, especially when it comes to treating skin of color and addressing hair loss, two areas that I am deeply passionate about.
Today, Black Dermatologists are only 3% of our field. I advocate for more inclusive dermatology, ensuring all skin tones are treated with the attention they deserve. My holistic approach includes addressing diet, stress, hormones, and genetics to offer a comprehensive level of care that goes beyond treating a condition and towards treating a person.
What excites me most is offering a concierge level of care where my patients feel like family. They are my highest priority. I want them to know they’re seen, heard, and treated with the utmost attention to their unique needs.
My journey to becoming a board-certified dermatologist has been anything but easy, but every challenge has shaped who I am today. It all started with my roots in Detroit, where I learned the value of hard work and perseverance from my parents. Their unwavering support and sacrifices laid the foundation for my dreams. Transitioning from being an international flight attendant to pursuing medicine was a significant leap, and I faced many obstacles along the way, including self-doubt and navigating a highly competitive field.
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is the importance of resilience. There were times when I felt overwhelmed, but I found strength in my passion for skin health and the desire to empower my patients. Surrounding myself with mentors and supportive colleagues , and knowing when to ask for help, was crucial; they inspired me to keep pushing forward, reminding me that my unique background and experiences were assets rather than hindrances.
Today, I want the world to know that my brand is built on empathy, inclusivity, and a holistic approach to dermatology. I’m passionate about treating skin of color and addressing hair loss, and I strive to create a welcoming space where everyone feels seen and valued. My story is about embracing creativity, innovation, and the idea that no matter where you come from, you can achieve your dreams. I hope to inspire others to pursue their passions and to remind them that their journey, with all its ups and downs, is what makes them unique and powerful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d make sure it was a memorable experience filled with fun, relaxation, and adventure! Here’s a little itinerary of what we’d do:
Day 1: Nature and Pampering
We’d start the morning with a beautiful hike at Runyon Canyon, soaking in the stunning views of the city. After our hike, we’d treat ourselves to some pampering. I’d suggest a luxurious pedicure experience by the Foot Nanny at the Four Seasons or a rejuvenating facial – Modern Esthetics offers custom facials featuring Biologique Recherche products. I’d send my gentleman friends across the street to Lashelle Ullie for the Gentlemen’s Skin Engineering Treatment
Day 2: Shopping and Dining
Next, we’d hit Rodeo Drive for a little retail therapy—it’s exciting to be surrounded by such beautiful and decadent brands, Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton. In the evening, we’d indulge in dinner and drinks, Steak 48 never disappoints. Whether we opt for sushi and live music at The Mermaid in DTLA, homemade Mediterranean at Sunnin, or Moroccan at Members, I’m all about great food and ambiance.
Day 3: Night Life
As a singer, karaoke would be a must, so we’d spend the night belting out our favorite songs at Kara Karaoke in Santa Monica! I also love to explore a speakeasy – Del Monte in Venice is at the top of my list.
Day 4: Beach Day
A beach day is essential, so we’d head to Malibu for some sun, sand, and relaxation. Of course we would bring our SUNSCREEN! We could enjoy a casual beach picnic and then maybe explore the Malibu Pier before grabbing a beachside dinner at Paradise Cove.
Day 5: Adventure
We’d embark on a fun adventure and rent bike’s from Spokes N Stuff and bike around Venice Beach.
Day 6: Chill
I would definitely take my friend unwind with a soothing sound bath at The Breathing Room in Westwood. Ciara Austin’s sessions are my favorite. Or a nice rejuvenating massage from the Now.
Day 7: Reflect
Finally, we’d wrap up the week by visiting to a local farmer’s market, depending on what day of the week it is – I love exploring the Downtown Santa Monica Farmers Market.
Whether it’s the hiking, the pampering, the delicious food, or the nightlife, my goal is to show my best friend the best of what Los Angeles has to offer!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many people have supported me through my journey. When I reflect on what has truly sustained me, encouraged me, and driven me, I have to start with my patients – past, present and future. I am grateful for their trust and for their willingness to let me into their lives.
My deepest gratitude goes to my beautiful parents, who have sacrificed so much and always encouraged me to pursue my dreams. As my mom always says, “it takes a village,” and I’m blessed with a village that includes my grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins, and friends who I love deeply.
I’d also like to thank UCLA for providing me with world-class training and preparing me to be an excellent board-certified dermatologist. My shoutout extends to all the teachers and mentors I’ve had along the way, from elementary school through medical school and residency, who poured knowledge and wisdom into me. A special thanks to my first “boss,” Lisa Lowenstein, my “fairy godmother in love,” who taught me to think like a business owner while leading from a place of passion.
Delta Air Lines deserves recognition for inspiring me to climb higher and giving me a first-class experience around the world.
Finally, I am a deeply spiritual person and respect everyone’s spirituality. Personally, I give all glory and honor to the Lord, who has blessed me, kept me, and always heard my prayers.
