We had the good fortune of connecting with Drorit Pobuta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Drorit, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Finding yoga and practicing was one of the best gifts I gave myself, and was something that benefited my life in so many ways and on so many layers. Back about 15 years ago when I started the business, which was by the way many years after having become an instructor myself, they were not many yoga studios in the area. I was contemplating either giving my time and committing myself to charity work or opening up a yoga studio and sharing the benefits of this ancient practice that had become such a wonderful part of my life. I finally realized that sharing my love of yoga and watching it enhance the lives of so many would be just as important of work as the other option I was considering.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have certainly learned so much along the way, I think every business owner does. We learn from my mistakes, and we’re constantly trying to do better. I do realize that I operate my business in a completely different way than most. It is about my students first, and my business second. It is also about my having as much freedom outside of the business as possible, so that I don’t feel overwhelmed by owning a business and all that it encompasses. I want to feel like a Yoga Instructor first and not think i’d be stressed with the every day issues of business and finances. And so, I have set up my business in a way where there is a true balance..

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well it would certainly be dependent on the individual and the types of things they love to do. But in general, I would love to show them all the different types of nature we have here in California between the Oceans & Beaches in the mountains, even driving through the canyons excite out of towners! If I had quite a bit of time, I would want to make sure that they could see Big Sur, Cambria, Monterey, some of the most beautiful places. I would take them to some of the small quaint wine areas, so peaceful, wonderful cuisine, and the people are so friendly.
Because I love music so much, I would find live music to enjoy together.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I spent my early years of yoga picking up probably every possible book and taking classes from many teachers. There’s something special I picked up from every book and every experience. My classes are mostly based and rooted in the practice of opening the heart in order to have a bar Fulfilled life. One of the things I’ve learned in my life is that through a heightened sense of mindfulness and clarity, one can find more happiness by being available and committed to the acts of service others after first serving yourself through unconditional love and commitment. It is a classic and cliché proposal of putting the oxygen mask on yourself first and then those around you who need assistance. The credit goes to my yoga students, who have always been my inspiration, observing their lives being enhanced in so many ways brings me great joy and motivates me to do my work on the best way I can.
