We had the good fortune of connecting with Durryl Xavier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Durryl, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe in tasking risks head on. Growing up my sister used to tell me to take the chicken by the wings LOL! — it has seriously stayed with me throughout my educational and now professional career. You find your power in the risk; for on the opposite side of risk is regret. Honestly, I feel that you truly find out who you are once you take the risk and conquer it. Then you realize you had it inside you all along and that the risk wasn’t so bad. Just like Dorothy from the Wiz

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My lifestyle brand is about adding elevated luxury to your everyday needs. Whether that’s a silk bonnet to wrap your hair at night or a modernized outfit you need to translate from day to day, I am the brand for you. My road to discovering my talents as a tailor definitely wasn’t easy, for if it was every one would’ve taken it right? Of course we all learned lessons along the way but one that really stuck with me is: ‘do it for you’ — NOT BECAUSE OF THE MONEY, NOT BECAUSE A FAMILY OR FRIEND SAID SO…. do it for yourself, for your peace of mind and sanity, and watch the blessing over flow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Great Question ! I have a few best friends that are all around the city. Funny enough we are all kind of on the indecisive said to say the least. However, vintage shopping is always a plus. I remember one time me and a best friend hit up about 5 Goodwills and Salvation Army Stores. Grabbed lunch at our favorite Pho House and then hit up a few consignment stores after, which was really a treat. If your a cocktail kind of person, Zinque, which is the newest talk of the town, has some of the best Aperiol Spritz, which is all the rage with the IG Influencers and Tocaya has some of the best Maui Maui tacos, that I have ever eaten. I don’t have much of a nightlife due to the fact that I moonlight as your favorite tailor, however Boardwalk 11 Karaoke is where me I and a few other friends long to unwind and have met some of the most interesting people.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my Shoutout to all the little black and brown kids who grew up and are growing up in South Central LA. Growing up we didn’t have the inclusion and representation that we now have today. I want to be a beacon of light to let them know you too can do it, just silence your self doubt, and keep Christ first. To my sister Shonnell, who pushed me to keep going, and to my Aunt Rosalyn and Mother Janine, who said they always knew it was inside of me but to just remain diligent and focus. My grandmothers Emma and Ethel, who helped cultivate and protect my heart, lastly to the 3 most important men in my life my 2 Dads, Angeleto and Donnell and my big brother Dominic, who loved me unconditionally while teaching me the art of thick skin and to always keep my held high — this one is for you !
