Meet Du’Shawn Hausley | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Du’Shawn Hausley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Du’Shawn, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
As a mother of three beautiful children, the best thing my husband and I have displayed to them is never giving up and finishing what you start. They’ve seen us tackle the simplest to the hardest scenarios and persevere until the end. This impacts how they navigate life, work, projects, school, friendships, and relationships.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The art that inspires me is creating music, art, and stories that let people feel inspired and uplifted. What sets me apart from other artists is my background. I’ve been through my share of trials later in life but my glass for the most part was always full. So I’m pouring from a healed place and I’m proud of that. Art can be instrumental in healing in ways that other things can not. It allows one to fully express themselves and step outside boundaries to create something beautiful in the eye of the beholder.

What I am most excited about is after I released my album, “Relational Grace,” it made way for many new collaborations to take place in the world of Art from music to paintings, podcasts, and more. I am jumping in! I didn’t get here by chance, but I got here by taking one step at a time and building relationships. it wasn’t easy because relationships can be scary when looked through past hurtful experiences, but if you’re willing to overcome challenges and bumps in the road then you will learn an important lesson. “Relationships are the new currency!”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you are visiting the Philadelphia area make sure you stop by Harriet’s Bookshop curated and owned by Jeannine Cook and In Jersey her sister store Ida’s Bookshop for some amazing reads and aesthetic views because you will have the best time ever and leave enlightened. Then I would grab a bite and drink from Dalessandro’s steaks because you cannot come to Philly without having one.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In my journey as an artist, there have been several people who have been instrumental in my growth. The person I want to shout out today is my husband, Alfred Sloan.

He has believed in me at times when I didn’t believe in myself. I gave up for a while, to be honest, and he went out and invested in my artistry by buying books, supplies, and anything I needed to do whatever it was I wanted to create. I want to say thank you for making sure the creative spark in me didn’t die or just flicker but continued to blaze high for all the world to see and be inspired.
