We had the good fortune of connecting with Dwayne Huang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dwayne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I became an independent illustrator naturally because I am constantly inspired by my surroundings and enjoy recording them with my pen. Producing illustration work for myself, experimenting with various creative possibilities, and fine-tuning my creative process, everything about creating can satisfy me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
After many years, I realized that my skills could help me represent myself in a fun way in the creative world, and I’m constantly inspired by fashion, films, and fun things around me.

While studying for my master’s degree in illustration at the Maryland Institute College of Art, I discovered that the Bauhaus style and surreal, colorful expressions are very appealing to me, so I began drawing items in flat and blocky colors. I enjoy pushing myself to create something new and different.

The most difficult challenge I am currently facing is an uncertain future after graduation, but I will figure it out.:)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the love and support of my friends, family, and tutors. Making art is a long and lonely journey; their company makes me feel special. When I’m having trouble with my drawings, my tutors always tell me to take it slow and watch a good movie; this is actually beneficial for me!
