Meet Dylan Fleming: Music Journalist, Comedian, Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dylan Fleming and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dylan, why did you pursue a creative career?
This is what’s inside of me and always has been. Even if I was working at a job where I was just sitting at a desk crunching numbers (which I’ve done before), I’d still be cracking jokes and trying to put people onto new music, or attempting to find common ground with others through music.
To be artistic/creative/ humorous is who I am at the core.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As the founder and moderator of P A L M (PrettyAwesomeLitMusic), it was in college when I realized I enjoyed interviewing artistically talented people. Leading up to my graduation I founded the brand. What sets PALM apart from others is the diversity amongst the artists covered, and that me as the moderator I do EVERYTHING myself. Every interview is edited by me, every post is written by me, almost all the graphics are created by me. I’m still in my journey as a creator/entertainer. Has it been easy? It’s as easy or difficult as I make it. If I say “this is gonna be hard, well expect it to be strenuous.” If I say “I can knock this out” it will be simple.” Just don’t get sidetracked. That’s the hard part!
The only obstacle to overcome is myself. The best time to do something is when you don’t feel like it. When you march to the beat of your own drum, don’t worry about getting others to march along with you. Just march. The right people will follow along.
A valuable lesson I’ve learned along the way is is that good communication never messes up anything. Also when you’re hired to do a job, don’t put anything else you have going on in the way of that.
What I want the world to know about PALM is that I’m bringing people across different genres, scenes, and backgrounds together and building a community of support. I just so happen to be hilarious! 😂
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Excellent question! Where to eat: I love island’s restaurant, Roscoes Chicken N Waffles, Spitz in eagle rock/Little Tokyo. Señior Fish in Eagle Rock/Echo Park.
Where to drink: Block Party in Highland Park is a vibe. I also used to love Barney’s Beanery in Pasadena. At one point that spot was like our version of Cheers, every time you go you run into somebody you know.
I’m not the biggest fashion dude in the world but there’s a certain vibe and energy on melrose. I look at that street as L.A.’s music/fashion clout cultural epicenter. If you have a store on melrose you’re doing something right! And we gotta hit a small venue music show. It doesn’t matter where. I prefer hole in the wall spots to arenas. And checking out Nipsey Hussle square is a must! Pay your respect to a real one.
I’d have to take this friend in town over to Vitawood. It’s a creative space in the West Adams District that my good friend Vitakari opened up. Everything in there she created and deigned herself. Plus I helped her come up with the name!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I must thank my parents for bestowing me with opportunities to explore different talents. I also want to shout out my mentor/stand-up instructor Bobbie Oliver, for teaching me about confidence, execution of an act, and showing me the power of meditation.
