Meet Eden Denton | Mother, artist, nonprofit activist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eden Denton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eden, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Honesty. If people were more honest every day the world would be a less painful place to be in my opinion.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In the past few years, I’ve made around 200 songs. My music can’t really be pinned down to one genre, I like to experiment with ambient lo-if vibes and I have a passion for hip-hop and rap. I’m currently drafting an album that I’ll record in a studio because almost every song I’ve made since 2020 I’ve just used my phone. I’ve saved a lot of money on studio time using Rapchat Gold, a recording app. I’ve been working on arranging songs for my album really for like 15 years now. I’ve been doing a lot of other things to help further other artist’s careers or businesses, the past few years is really when I’ve tried to do music as a solo artist. I have a song on Spotify with an artist by the name of Ronnie Cash- FTS is the song title and now I’m earning royalties from a song I originally produced for the first time. I have music on YouTube and SoundCloud under “EDBD” (“EDBD music” on YouTube) I started working voluntarily as a teenager for bands like Papdosio doing street promotion- I was just trying to get a free ticket to any show that I could- I saw Zion I and Rebelution and SOJA at the intersection in 2009- I had such a great experience that I knew I wanted to spend time in the future going to more concerts. I continued to build connections and friendships in the Grand Rapids Music scene- and then in 2015 I released my first attempt at rapping on SoundCloud. I became friends with Ariana Charlene a wonderful talented woman- and I’ve always been in awe out of the talent that comes out of Grand Rapids. I started a “music label” or tried to in 2018- I called it 616 Music LLC and I remotely managed to make a lot of things happen- I’ve worked with a handful of artists over the years- at one point the team was over 50 people strong. I had a traumatic head injury in 2020 and had a rough time recovering from that- but I’ve always managed to somewhat keep my hand in music one way or another. I changed the name of what I started to Anguish Family- I aim to someday be a fully legal and legitimate 501c3 nonprofit organization- I have experience building a nonprofit from the ground up- Freedom Forest was our previous nonprofit. We were planning a music festival. I’d love to do that again someday, and hopefully I will be able to do some sort of event this year or next- or both providing certain circumstances. I’ve been able to accomplish quite a bit of things with very little money- but finances have definitely been the biggest struggle. My advice to anyone else out there is just do what you love- I love helping people. That’s why I have Anguish Family- A community resource for not only the starving artist but anyone in poverty seeking help or consultation. I am a holistic health practitioner, and that combined with my yoga education is what I use when people come to me for any kind of help or ailment they may have. I would love to find a new shaman and continue studying healing practices based on ancient and sacred methods. I have been working in some way for over two decades now, and I’ve accomplished more than I ever thought I would. I want people to know that women deserve full basic rights- it’s crazy how we’re constantly silenced and objectified and we still don’t make as much money as men on average. Women are powerful and divine and we make the world go round. A huge idol of mine is the artist EMM- I think what she does and what she says and shares with the world online and in her music, is so important. I relate to her so much and I’m extremely neurodiverse- she makes me feel like I don’t have to be ashamed for being who I am.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d probably get a hotel room somewhere nice on the beach or pick different spots to camp throughout the week- I live in Northern Michigan and it’s just beautiful. There’s great restaurants everywhere, I’m a huge fan of Playa Bowls downtown in Traverse City. It’s the perfect breakfast. I’d probably want to go antiquing- and hiking in a couple places. I’d also want to spend some time at Marischino Recording Studio
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family, my grandparents- the people who have stayed in my life and have become family – I have such a beautiful support system. I also had a really great yoga teacher, I studied yoga at Peace Lab Yoga in Grandville, MI. my daughter is also my biggest and greatest teacher.
